CDJ withdrawn from paris

Pressure is needed to achieve a desired outline in horses that have not reached the strength and balance to put themselves on the bit

The horse should put itself on the bit

Rushing through the early stages of training means having to hold the horse in front because its on the forehand, and can't find the elastic contact that gives finesse to the rider and beauty to the horse

This starts in intro tests where even there they are marked down if the horses face isn't nearly vertical even when the fairly novice riders have no idea how to achieve that except to have a death grip on the reins.

The FEI are never going to make the changes necessary to ensure that sport horses are really comfortable and protected. They are there to protect horse sport, not horses.

I think that sums this all up nicely. Its not about the horses, its about the sport continuing as is. Anything else is just smoke and mirrors by them.

I think intro should be to intro the horse to comp, the atmosphere and for people who have opportunity to use a boarded arena etc a nursery experience,

At that level negotiating the arena correctly, ie showing some bend into corners, and on turns needs to take priority over outline which could be variable at certain moments so not to discourage or disapoint the horse by hanging on to the front end

I think the importance of moving forwards freely and seeking the contact at moments by lengthening the neck should take priority over nose angles, ie going Into the long end corners stretching into the contact showng a nice bend and allowing the inside hind leg to start stepping under, not strangling the front end and braking the movement

Flowing naturally, and not destroying the potential
But slowly laying the foundations,

That is where
the work is and what takes so much time

Having watched that very upsetting video about horse pain in top class dressage I now understand what Charlotte was trying to do.Apparently the horse has to be taught to keep going forward despite pain. The trainer whips it from the floor and it learns to keep going at all costs.
I was told that showjumping did/do something similar.Set up a jump with a distance that the horse can't manage.Whrn it stops,as it has to,they whip it half to death. It makes you despair of horse sports.

Make the horse afraid of the leg, I was once told.

As far as the SJers are concerned, we can only hope that they break their necks in a hideous accident when the horse tries too hard, and that the horse doesn't also break something in the process.

Let's play hide the rowel

I have done a lot of Intro tests - I've been using them as a way of getting a pony settled in strange places - & can categorically say that no judge has expected me to have that kind of outline.

They will point out if outline too high, over bent, inconsistent etc but so long as I'm accurate and the rhythm is good it's 7/8 scores.

That includes the 2 tests where I got permission to ride in a hackamore.

Those pictures are horrible 😫
I know, I'm really struggling to see any progress at all in this regard. I sometimes think the riders are now just taking the piss out of anyone interested in welfare, knowing the FEI will protect them. It doesn't make me feel any more kindly towards them, that's for sure..

I take my toddlers toys away when he can’t play nicely with them. It’s a shame the FEI don’t feel the same way concerning live beings.
Now there is a fabulous idea. Any misuse and it will be asked to be removed and not allowed back on in competition for 6 rides (or whatever)

Honestly I think that would work faster than the fines and bans from competitions.

After seeing those pictures I don’t think they should be allowed their toys back. Ever. They obviously can’t be trusted with them. So awful.

Who is it? The thought of doing this to my horses horrifies me.
Someone competing in the CDI 5* at Fontainebleau in April - pictures are on the Collectif pour les Chevaux FB page. Most welfare campaigners don't attempt to ID riders or show deliberately identifying details because people tend to accuse them of mounting witch hunts if they do.

Vile. Can hardly bear to watch. How dare they treat these animals like this. Makes me want to weep. It's unequivocally abuse.

Yes it really is. I don't think that's an over reaction in the slightest :( I feel so ambivalent about posting things like this but I feel like they need to be seen as widely as possible.

Add to that spur abuse the fact that a lot of the riders have forgotten the 'still lower leg' part of classical riding (if they ever knew it) and instead just keep kicking with every stride to 'maintain forward motion' (especially in trot). With that type of riding being common that spur could be digging in with every stride.....

I was taught to keep my lower leg still, wrap my legs around the horse and squeeze inwards with the idea in my head of trying to 'lift' the horses centre to create impulsion instead of endless kicking. (Hard to explain what I mean and I know that such a 'lift' is not really possible but it does explain what was trying to be achieved). I was also lucky that despite being short I have long legs compared to my torso. (I rode to Medium, trained to adv. med. as my horse following a fractured pelvis wasn't comfortable to go further). I never rode with spurs either at home or in competition.

I must have been doing something right as I did riding club teams and was always 'suckered' into doing both the 'Riding Test' as well as the dressage test classes and I used to win those scoring 9s regularly at area level. (The Riding Test was about Novice level).

I don't see any mention of Riding Tests at riding club results anymore (I'm talking 20 to 25 years ago and I no longer ride). Perhaps it would be a good addition to BD to start doing Riding Tests as well as Dressage Tests..... (Although perhaps in these 'sensitive' days people are not prepared to have their riding criticised)

Going back to the original theme of this thread, I see Haygain has been resurrected and CDJ is in the video advertising it on Facebook.
Oh! She must have had her baby by now, wonder if she’ll be out doing anything soon once her ban is up? Be interesting to see what happens
