My ulcer prone mare (treated and clear) has gone off Thunderbrooks healthy herbal chaff. She's fussy and won't bother eating if it's not tasty, but comes up all lumpy and itchy from alfalfa, which rules out a huge amount of chaffs that are suitable for ulcery horses. Soya also doesn't agree with her.

I've tried Honeychop Lite & Healthy too and she won't eat that either, I assume because it's too boring.

The rest of her feed consists of Agrobs mash, linseed, Equimins balancer, gut supp, corn oil, salt & magnesium, and she has eaten this happily for a while now.

Considered removing chaff altogether but she likes something she can chew.

Any suggestions?

My ulcery one can't have alfalfa either. She is getting Dengie Meadow Grass which has some herbs in which make it quite tasty apparently, and a dressing of rapeseed oil (very light, you can't really tell). it seems to be a nice mix of grasses.

I feed moli has light and healthy. It has no mollases, alfalfa or soya in it. It has marigolds, cinamon and something else in it. All my 3 eat it happily

Would a muesli be any good? Agrobs and Thunderbrooks do a muesli that look quite nice, may be more interesting than a plain chaff.

I use emerald grass chaff it's just chopped grass nothing added, my 2 can't have alfalfa it sends them nuts and they won't eat a straw chaff on its own so the grass is a good option.

Molichaff calmer is alfalfa free but does have bit of molasses. I don’t feed much & they obviously find it tasty. They were on honeychop lite & healthy but on summer ration they are bit unenthusiastic and wanted something to carry their supplements
