We did but she came to us having been a stray, was named Vicky by the rescue but it didn't suit her. I'm not sure I would if it was a private rehome and they already knew their name.
Can I tell you that you probably still look a bit… silly.I will now feel less stupid when calling Bing Bong.

I was talking to Ffee, who I call Wobbledog in light conversation and realised that our neighbour, a proper old school Devon farmer, was listening.
Actually, it's a spaniel, call it whatever you want, it probably won't be listening.
I was on a gundog training course this weekend and there was a European import GSP. First dog owned by a lady who worked full time. Funnily enough it was not going well. The trainer said best names are those with a good strong consonant in them.Whisper
For the way I work my dogs you could actually have, say, Kenny and Penny as they really only wait for the first letter. I don’t tend to use names other times. I would not be able to work Pen and Pep together unless I used a different send command for Pep, which I don’t think my brain would cope with.
Hopefully if I spend time she will learn a new name. Mine all respond to their nicknames as much as their given so I might try like CC suggested. I think Pepper… Red Hot Chilli Pepper… Chilli. We’ll see.
I see your point about not changing the name but it will make my life easier.
Oh you triallers are such purists… ?Clodagh!!!! They should not be going on the first letter.....try having a dog with "S" as the first letter. I say Send Your Dog before I say her name often to test it as we slipped up in a test as a pup. Same with the trial dog, use "Maybe" as his starts with M. No one moves until full name is said.

That’s a by the by but I thought it was interesting. This spaniel is going to be… hopefully half obedient ?
When you have children and you call them the dog’s names first. ?.
I’ve been known, our shooting, to say a dog’s name and wonder why it hasn’t gone. Then realise it’s not out that day. ?.
