Changing dogs names

I would definately change a hideous or unbearably common name, but on the whole would probably leave be most of the time. We have a new tradition at work or renaming Tysons, they are practically unrehomable!

Baxter has always been Bax, he was only 5 months when I bought him but I never considered changing it, I like Baxter :)

I reckon about 50% of our rehomes get a new name, typically people go super cutesy (bleurgh!) or very butch. A woman wants to rename one of my dogs Dyson, he is currently Logan and has been for his 4 years on earth. I am FURIOUS about it and I cant really explain why!

The only one I've changed was my first dog. Who Came with the name beauty. She was a rescueddog from the pound. She was skin and bone and weighted the same as a springer. Her lips where just hanging because there was no filling to her face. A very poor sight for a Rottweiler. I changed it to ruby. My new dog is called Bruce lol not my choice but his recall is so good I wouldn't dare change it.

we re-homed a splendid black poodle called Jet - every black poodle seems to be called that, so we re-named him Chet after Chet Baker the jazz trumpeter, but gave him the surname Barker [ cos he was a dog:D] - which was all fine excpet when he went to the vets where i always had to explain that my surname isnt Barker:D
for some reason all our pets have their own surnames - i have no idea why

My parents got two GSD type things from a rescue, named Major and Zina. Unfortunately, since the names sounded similar they couldn't tell the difference (not the most intelligent dogs).
Zina, the younger one who was a stray before the rescue got her was renamed to Lulu, which saved their confusion.

My two rescue dogs were rescued by me as they had been thrown from a car so had no id on them.

Dont see an issue in changing their names. So long as they get used to the names.

My previous three dogs all came with their names Murphy was a travellers lurcher, Meg came as Megan but was a deaf old lady when we got her so it never mattered anyway and Boss came as Boss but it suited him and everyone always commented on what a cool name it was!! New dog though was called Kai which really didn't suit him at all and he doesn't respond to it anyway so he is now Barnacles (Barney) which he does respond to and much more fitting for a CKCS :)
