I am trying to improve my riding position and find it much easier to maintain my lower leg in the correct position when I ride without stirrups.

I currently have an albion K2 legend VSD saddle and find that when I try to put my leg in the correct position for dressage that the stirrup leathers hang back at about 45deg, and then when I do rising trot the leathers go vertical so my leg moves forward and rocks about.

I'm wonding if I was to use a dressage saddle whether this would help me improve my lower leg position and help my muscles get stronger so that when I did ride in my Albion I would find it easier to maintian an improved position.

I know I have a lot of work to do with my loosening up my hips but I'm working on that as well.

So really after some advice if anyone has changed to a dressage saddle and it's helped them improve their position?

A Dressage saddle that correctly fits you and your horse will help a lot with lower leg position. When I try and ride longer in my GP/Jump my lower leg wanders about all over the place, mostly because it's almost of the back of the flaps when in the same place I have it in my dressage saddle!

do you feel your position has improved as a result of using a dressage saddle?

Not really from just the saddle, but it does enable you to work towards a more secure seat and lower leg and still have the support of the saddle which a GP won't so much. Sadlly there was no miraculous position transformation!!

I found the Wintec Isabell Werth put me in a very secure position although I think some people find themselves a bit "locked in".

I hate to ask but are you having regular lessons?

I only have a dressage saddle but found/find lessons a necessity to improve not only my position but my effectiveness as a rider

It may be worth having a look at the Fhoenix Saddles, as they were designed by Heather Moffett and even on the GP saddles the stirrup bars are set back which makes it much easier to sit in the correct position and they are extremely comfortable - you look like a dressage rider as soon as you sit in one! ;-)
