I was wondering how he was Gutted for you. Keeping fingers crossed that they can keep the infection under control.
I'm afraid I would also say that insurance is a must - my horse's vets bills reached nearly £10k for one claim - would have been awful to pay all of that myself (even paying everything over the vet fees limit was bad enough) - when things go wrong the last thing you need is financial worry.
Thinking of you and sending non-infection-y vibes to Charlie
I read the first part of your post about the lame not lame and having the wound and knew you were going to say joint infection. Sounds similar to our Freddy, except he was mostly sound then 2 1/2 weeks later chronically lame. Unfortunately the vet didn't give him good odds as the infection was very bad so we had to make the decision to pts. I'm glad the outcome is slightly better for you and they've been able to operate. Sending masses of healing vibes your way. (((hugs)))
Its hard to believe such small cuts can be so catastrophic.
Oh god I am so sorry, he looks such a sweet happy chap in the photo, they really don't have any idea when they are poorly sometimes do they (probably for the best!). I really really hope he gets better, joint infections are buggers. C'mon Charlie be a fighter!!
just been over to see him. the advantages of working at the same place.
unfortunately not good news today, his wound has been opened again as there was too much pus building up and they are worried it will go back into the joint. He was really painful on it overnight although a bit more comfortable today.
I think it all depends on the joint tap tomorrow. if the cell count has risen then its bad news so fingers crossed for a same or low count.
Thanks for all your vibes, really appreciate them all.
i've not been on here much so hadn't met charlie before...but he looks like such a lovely chap...fingers crossed that he is a fighter and that he'll soon be on the mend and hugs for you too xx
