I have taken on rescue case, he came with an identification card which was done by a vet (the descriptive part of a passport) . Apparently, vet was meant to be coming out to issue a passport but told them that he couldn't issue one as they needs to print a passport form off the internet for him to fill in so instead he just filled out an identification form. Is this any use to me? How do i go about getting him a passport asap? is it costly?

Process is.....
Microchip animal in question (this can only be done by a vet) and whilst he is there, get him to fill in the forms Amymay has given you a link for.
Send them off along with the fee.
Passport will then be sent to you.

I have an identification card for him done and signed by a vet. (The descriptive part of a passport)

Would i still need to have a vet out?

if the pony isn't microchipped then yes, u will still need the vet to come out. u can't apply for a passport unless the pony is microchipped. if u like u can then transfer the details from the identification card onto the forms amymay linked u to, but actually u don't have to put all the markings etc on the passport form if u don't want to, u can just have the microchip done, fill the form in with your details and send it off. microchip costed me £26 with the vet (plus call out obviously) and then i think its about £25 to send off the passport.

HTH :)

He has a freeze mark.

Doesn't make any difference, it must be micro chipped as well. Vet should have done chip at the same time as sketch TBH so ring and ask if he did. If he didn't shame on him, it means an extra callout fee for you and you will need ID sketch there with you so he can add the micro chip sticky numbers on before it goes to passport agency.

not that i am aware of ?

Then as joeanne above has said: Process is.....

Horse needs a microchip. So you will need the vet again.

you need to have one. You cant get a passport without now :)

the vet will scan the horse to check if one is in there already, and if there isnt will insert one.
You need to get the vet out.

I think it will be around 110 pounds

18 for the microchip
25 for the passport filling in by vet
45 for call out
23 for passport from passport agency

wasn't aware of the microchip proceedure. So thank you :)

That is terrible advice and not allowed. A full sketch should be sent for any passport otherwise if the markings aren't correct it could be attached to any horse the same colour! A sure way for fraud possibilities and no passport agency should touch it:mad:

I do think some breed socs/pio dont require ID pics though, Maesfen. Mine does, but I do believe Ive read some that dont.

sorry maesfen, certainly didn't mean to cause any offence :(. afaik u don't HAVE to have all the markings and whorls put on by the vet (my youngsters passport didn't have it all on when i got her) though i'm not saying this is necessarily wise. please don't get angry, just noting my experience, not trying to make anyone cross, don't think there was any need to go at me like a tiger

"Completing the silhouette:
The new law does not require the silhouette to be completed, other than
to have the site of the microchipping marked with an M and any freeze
brands or hot brands recorded"

this is where i found that information, it is on the application form that amymay posted. sorry for confusion :(

Ditto catswithclaws, I had a vet to do drawing for one last week and he said the new law means they don't have to have all markings shown.

I don't agree with it but it doesn't mean it's not the law.

I don't think you need the vet to fill the form out - especally if you are going through the Horse Passport Agency but the horse defo needs a microchip though.

If you live close enough to the vet you can always walk/ride the horse down there to save the call out fee. I used to do this before I changed to a better vet. Doris had her microchip inserted in the car park. :)

Sorry, didn't mean to go off the deep end especially now I've seen the comments below too which I knew nothing about at all! Completely alien to me that a passport is not filled in correctly, never heard of it before in over 50 years so no wonder it's firmly fixed in my mind. I personally would hate a passport to not be filled in completely regardless of micro chip or not, it just seems very slipshod and cheap. :)

Hear hear, think it's a very backward step and I will still insist any sketches I have done have every marking included but it's a total get out for any dodgy souls if there aren't m/c's already recorded or DNA recorded.

All decent Passport issuing agencies require the silhouette to be done as compulsory....

Exactly, I think 'decent' is the optional word here! Can you imagine Weatherbys, SHBGB, IDHS or CHAPS to name just a few (as the ones I'm most familiar with) being content with just a colour because it's chipped? I hope they don't change their registrating standards because of this stupid rule.

I'm hopeful for the opposite actually Maesfen......that because the decent ones still require silhoutette's that the less picky will follow suit.
