Would anyone be happy to look at a video on a private message? Lame share pony. Owner losing confidence in vet. Just want a few ideas I can share with her. It’s so tough watching them struggle.

I understand wanting other opinions. Be careful though; even a good farrier or experienced horse person can only guess from a video. It could be anything from a deep abscess to a tendon issue or something neurological. The knuckling over is especially worrying. Your friend really needs a second vet visit, possibly from a different practice for a fresh look. It's okay to get a second professional opinion when things aren't improving.

You’re so right. Had the conversation this morning about second opinion.

I could look if it’s an “ am I imagining it or does this look weird” sort of thing but I’m no vet and will fully admit that stifle issues are not my area of expertise (weird front limb landings on the other hand…)

Obviously up to your friend at end of day but if can afford may be worth either asking for a vet who has a specific interest in lameness from their current practice or asking for referral to a specialist if they feel they’re getting nowhere / things are worse not better.

I’ve found other equine professionals who know the horse well (& so know their “ normal” better than the vet due to seeing them more frequently) such as trimmers / farriers or physio / bodyworkers / saddle fitters can have really useful input if the vet is open to it (Obviously alongside not instead of) as sometimes combining what they’re seeing / feeling and what they feel has changed with what the vet is picking up on can sometimes help identify potential places to look for issues that might not have been thought about by one person on their own.

Thanks Boulty. She’s contacting a new vet today so everything crossed.
