Fave trainer was local today so managed an extra lesson with her. Lovely morning, sunny but cold which gave Rose a bit of extra sharpness, but in a good way. Once we'd worked in a got Rose going nicely in trot, we worked on getting a nice punchy trot on the hind leg, soft in front and then being able to maintain it, even on 10m circles. Easier said than done as Rose will lose impulsion or lose a shoulder or just lose the rhythm. Good exercise though, balancing with half halts, good use of the corners and keeping her in front of the leg with a quick nudge. I tend to ask for too much inside bend, especially on the right rein and this became very obvious once we went into the canter work, so asking for a bit of outside flexion was a good test of straightness, which we failed on a number of occasions resulting in her dropping me back to trot. Left canter, although she can be a bit more tricky in the trans is actually much better as she's straighter. We had an almost re-run of the lorry incident from last Monday. Big tractor with trailer came into sight as we cantered down the long side towards it, but this time I stuck my leg on and asked for a bit of SF and an incident was averted. I think I'm getting a bit better at anticipating a problem before it happens (hopefully these are not famous last words!). Any way, super lesson, Rose did some fab work and I definitely need my back sorting.
