I have seen two today. One a jumping pony. Advert read ok but the pictures were all headshots. Even a couple jumping were just headshots? Very odd.

Then a mare for sale from a stud (I assume ex broodmare) as 10 years old and advert states she is ready to start her ridden career. Obscenely obese :(

I was shocked to see someone advertising poo picking services at 8 pounds per single wheelbarrow. I did question the amount as I fill up 4 barrows each morning and it takes 30 minutes. Including trip to muck heap. Was told the cost would therefore be 32 pounds for half an hour. Think I need to change my career choice.

How big is the wheelbarrow?

I think people forget that prices have gone up substantially over the last 4 years, for everything. Unless it's a tiny patch of land on flat ground, £8 a barrow isn't exactly eye watering. My boy's field is about 2 acres on a massive incline, and having done 4 barrows worth last night, I'd happy pay someone £8 a go!

Horse advert on FB group for ‘possible sale’
Owner lists a plethora of health issues
- medicated hocks and neck for arthritis
, treatment on SI, hoof imbalance and has been having physio for other muscular discomfort. Can’t be ridden at the moment, needs 2-4 months of groundwork before horse can be ridden but the advert claims the horse will pass a 5-stage vetting…

The advert ends with -
PLEASE NOTE: If you are not a capable rider, I will turn you away. If I get bad vibes from you, I will turn you away. Home is more important, and I will do what ever I can to know my girl has the best possible future.

In summary it’s got problems with hocks, neck, SI and feet. Who on earth would want to take that on? Even if the owner wanted to loan the horse out it’d be a walking uninsurable money pit for a loanee

I have seen this too and when I advertised for wanting a LWVTB or full Loan they messaged me about the horse. I politely declined. So very sad.

It’s nuts. The more I think about it the angrier I am.
Is it that she’s just deluded?
Buy/loan my issue ridden horse, do all the rehab work and hope for the best?
If they can’t afford to keep or retire the horse they should consider PTS.

I wish I was brave enough to have said that to them!

I have had at least 4 messages off people trying to pass on older horses/ponies (19 was the youngest, a TB) One has COPD, needs soaked hay, medication from the vet and can only be very lightly hacked, was also 20. Also numerous youngsters ready to start their ridden career, for full loan only... of course you wont allow me to pay all winter, put all the hard work in ready for you to take them back in spring. Some people are so cheeky!

I think to be fair, people don't realise that others won't have the emotional investment in the horse to do all this upkeep etc without blinking. I often see ads where I think, it's not the best horse that's ever walked this earth, it's just that to you. Equally I'm sure some people look at Dex and think he's common and workmanlike and has a bald patch on his face 😂

I just feel that owner also doesn’t have that much emotional investment if she’s trying to sell/loan it out. Advert also states it’s not a novice ride. Maybe cos it’s in pain somewhere.

But generally yes. I have seen people try and sell horses with weird quirks that they think are fine and I have to think WTAF 😂.

Screenshot 2024-09-01 185316.png free/low priced in most people's ideal price and height range doing the levels most amateurs would like to do with a good temperament? hmm, good luck with that one...i suppose they might get someone looking to offload something before winter but it seems like taking a risk if it's to be a young person's horse that it will be dangerousor just something that would be better off pts but someone doesnt want to spend the money doing that

Spotted another ad where the owner is offering a loan to stay on current yard...for a horse that can't be ridden and is 'suitable for someone who is not interested in riding, just caring for and spending time with horses'.

So another 'look after my horse for me, but I'm not paying you a penny' ads, then...
What a cracking temperament to breed from......

I know of at least three people who have bred from mares that were too nutty/broken to ride. Makes my poop itch.

I saw that one too, I can't imagine wanting money for a horse with that much wrong with it

I saw one the other day for a full loan to be a companion but to stay at current yard..

Surely the only people you should be advertising to are those on your current yard??

Another wanting ‘low budget horse’ for at least 110 SJ. Happy to consider a horse who has failed the vet. Reply from well known super-dodgy dealer gets a thumbs up and ‘I’ll pm you’.

And that is why these scumbags stay in business. Because for the right price people will buy broken horses - as long as they can make them carry on jumping. 😢😢😢
