Cheeky/ridiculous posts you see on Facebook.

On a local group, someone wanting to return to riding "but I'm 18 stone, is there anywhere that can do riding for this weight"

I have tried to comment (respectfully) and now I'm sh1tting myself over what people are going to say to me 😂😂😂 meanwhile im fretting about if I'm too heavy for Diva, I don't know if I am or not so going to ask vet and farrier when next see them because I want professional input before I go and start pony squishing!

It's not really cheeky if it's genuine naivety rather than "I know I'm too heavy still but want to know where will let me ride regardless". But the "again" implies well you've done this before so should have some idea of how it works, namely RS have scales and weight limits. Maybe I'm just an old cynic 😬!

It was more the fact that it’s only for schooling that bugged me.
I can understand that TBH. I had a youngster that I had a sharer for and the mare was better in the school than out hacking for being taken by surprise. My sharer was allowed lessons with whoever she wanted and I'd have transported her to a show if they'd wanted that.

After a while, the horse and sharer had both come on and then they went out hacking. I do remember one message about the horse not wanting to cross a STOP marker painted in the road, and another where a stream was on the way home and the sharer ended up with wet feet as she had to get off and drag her through rather than riding.

Funny thing was, it was familiar rides she was doing, that the mare could do with me no issue. It would always take me a while to feel confident to let someone else loose in the wild and with traffic.

Even if it is just that the owner doesn't like to school, that seems fair enough to me too.

Has anyone got anything under £2k that they’d be willing to do a 5/6 month instalment plan with a full contract and direct debit in order , willing to have a yard viewing of where the horse would be going , I’m also willing to leave a deposit on the horse to lower the monthly payments,

So will take 6 months to get 2k together. Wonder if they have budgeted for tack, rugs and all the extras you need for a new horse....

I saw that too. Thankfully all of the replies that I saw respectfully advised that no riding establishment can take riders of that weight (and why) and made suggestions of how the poster could get horse time while continuing their weight loss.

I was one of those comments, the chinchilla profile pic. :) honestly they should be proud of losing so much weight but still far too heavy to ride. I think people forget it's 15% of the animal's healthy weight as well - if something is lugging around 100kg of its own fat as well as a rider the strain on joints will be immense - plus the impact of conformation and bone. Sadly it's really hard when there's so many videos of very very overweight people riding, and both that and fat horses are normalised far too much imo.

Have you seen her recent post slating the 'no verbal filter' lady who was talking about her not wanting to allow a horse vetted that was won on the auction page.
It used to be the case that horses on the auction page couldn't be vetted at all and you weren't allowed to know who the seller was. They used to pretend that the horses being auctioned were owned by a variety of different people (very shy obviously) when it was just her and her partner. So I guess allowing a vetting if you pay an extra £1800 on top of the auction price could be construed as an improvement in their terms and conditions .

Interesting; the dealer says she doesn't like content creators paid by facebook. I don't know how it works exactly but I have 10k followers and get paid by facebook. This page has 43k followers - i'd be amazed if she's not getting paid as a content creator and will be well aware that posts like this that get lots of engagement get more money...

In fairness to the dealer, not withstanding any other opinions I know people may have on them in general or what they've said since, I would consider buying a horse in an online auction similar to when we used to go and buy one from a live auction. You'd have a look in the pens, see them in the ring, put your bid in and take a punt that the horse you took home turned out alright. Sending a horse to a generic auction was a quick way to sell a horse when you didn't want to go through the hassle of advertising, viewings and vettings, but you knew you'd get less £££. Buying from an auction was a risk but a cheaper way to pick up a horse than buying privately, and you might find a diamond in the rough. Admittedly back in the day you were gambling with hundreds not thousands of pounds, but that's how the market is changing I guess.

I think beaulieu road sales did similar through lockdown. Only you could go to the sellers property to view the pony before bidding started. It meant the verders (spelling?) still had a means of selling on the youngstock from the forest.

I think it more the dealers attitude that winds me up. But then that what grinds my gears with the online vet as well.

I posted about this poor old mare on the 20th may. She is back up for sale, I think different area, person and phone number so not even 2 months and she is back up for sale 😢
That is incredibly sad. That second picture :( If she wasnt so far from me I would go and get her right now.

Can someone see if they can get an answer from the seller? I've tried several times and haven't been able to make contact.

You have to monetize it though, being paid by them isn't a certainty once over a certain number of followers. So maybe they just haven't.

Please someone get that little mare. I still keep thinking about her. But things are so uncertain still over my existing mares health that when we got the most recent blood results back it suddenly seemed like a really bad idea to get anyone else. :( 💔

A selection of of best from DD... sigh.

It came up on fb earlier so counts, I was scrolling so actually thought I must have seen it wrong and it was just matching baselayer …

(Poss worse than cycling bibs for going to the loo, I don’t think you can put drop seat panels on riding ones without chafing 😅)

If "how do I pee" is everyone's first thought, how did nobody on the product design team have it 😂

I'm "excited" to see what price they put it at. Their breeches are £200 and the baselayers £84 as it is.
