Cheeky/ridiculous posts you see on Facebook.

I’m not sure I follow this person’s logic. They want cheaper livery on the basis that it may be long term, and are looking for top class care at a DIY budget.

I think what she’s saying is that she’s potentially going to be paying out for retirement livery for the next 15 years so she’s trying to keep the overall cost of it as low as possible. I worked out once my retired one had cost me around £60k to sit in a field so far….yeah best not to do the sums 🙃

Her budget is a bit unrealistic if she’s shopped around already and been quoted double in her area. I will say I did get exactly what she’s describing on retirement livery for less than £300/month though, however I’m in a very different area.

I had a companion on loan from a small, informal rescue (Dartmoor Hill pony) so that the very vocal Shetland companion had a companion when I took my competition horse out! After a couple of years, I bought her & I'm now riding her as my current competition horse is having a kpu relapse over winter. Loaning worked at the time as I'd only just moved in here & wasn't sure how it was all going to work out iro the amount of land, getting planning for the stables & arena etc. It freed up a space in the rescue & when I bought her, gave them some funds to rescue/pay expenses for something else.

I never understood companion loans I’ve alway fostered from a rescue when I required a companion

Another point to add, all the loans I've had, whether primarily companions or ridden, have all been loaned from local owners and have virtually been on my doorstep, current one included. If I were to look at rescues (which I have briefly), none are that close and most are unridden so I wouldn't even have the option of light hacking.

I am literally lost for words

Wait... wtf?!

How do the hunts allow her to ride out with them? She has absolutely no control, questionable riding, and the horse is a walking welfare case. No wonder it had bloody (literally) holes under its chin from curb chain she posted pics of.

Considering it wasn't that long ago a curb chain gave that horse an open wound under its chin .... And it was lame.... Not sure I would be hunting it. And certainly not hunting it with a herd of dead cows on its face/continually bitting up

Fwiw caption accompanying image was "Mummy is alive, just! She's given up with the snaffle rein and tied it up, because I have no brakes, even with the curb rein!
Looks like mummy will be shopping for a running gag..."

It's a minor peeve, compared to the rest, but she also clearly doesn't know what her tack does/is for then.

I have a companion on loan, he is ridden, but at rising 24, only lightly.

Some people loan companions and also cover their keep, I think that's what this poster is hoping for.
Yes but I don’t consider a horse you’re riding as a companion
When I say companion I just mean companion
I completely understand loaning a horse you can take on the odd hack

I’m not surprised it had an open wound the Pelham isn’t fitted correctly and she’s riding only off the curb rein. Absolute tool.

Why let things like appropriate and correctly fitted tack, semblance of control or a sound horse get in the way of doing what you want.
On a fun ride a couple of years ago I met and rode with a lady on a young horse. She needed company although her pony was very good.
As we chatted about fun rides in general I mentioned that rider and horse. It turned out my companion drove many, many miles to fun rides. Her comments were very special.

Yes he always runs up light. I try (sometimes fail) not to judge that too harshly, better than fat and he is also put together really cut n shut so makes it more difficult.

I wouldn’t take the horse hunting with those legs either. But again trying and failing not to judge.

My WTAF though was snaffle reins to fixed reins round the neck with martingale attachment (tight) direct to fixed point.
Galloping and jumping on bad ground.
Horses jaw and neck so vulnerable if it all goes tits up. She is so so stupid.

It’s ok she’s going to use a Waterford running gag next. Also not sure I could get my head round taking a horse hunting with legs that look like this

That poor, poor horse :-( can the hunt not send her home, she’s a liability to herself, the horse and everyone else around her. She is local to me and has quite the reputation for being difficult…..

Is it impossible for someone to just choose not to do something if they won't have full control of their horse while doing it? Is that not allowed? Does the rule only come into force when your SM is monetised?

Oh no, judge away.

I was briefly at a yard near her. It's fairly safe to say the horse is poor because she doesn't look after him properly.

He's also not sound and I imagine a horse being hammered around, not cared for appropriately, and in pain probably would struggle to look in good condition?
