So many posts this autumn…

Type 1: Please take my pony on loan for a year or two and fix it, it does x,y,z bad behaviour. I bought the wrong size/age/temperament for my kid but like pony so don’t want to sell. Want someone else’s kid to get run off with/sit the bucks etc then take it back. Pony not a fancy comp type so no particular value in fixing it for the loaner (Otherwise known as ‘Free schooling livery pls’!!!). Saw one earlier in the year and a fair few more now!

Type 2: Please buy my pony, I think it’s naughty/badly schooled, it’s all the fault of the previous owners (the fact that I expected a pony who isn’t yet an adult to bring my nervous kid off the lead rein is completely irrelevant, it’s not my fault at all). Please pay what I bought it for, now I have ruined pony’s confidence and given it a host of bad habits.

Type 3: I am looking for a large, young, cheap pony for nervous/young kid. Want child to grow into it, they can grow together etc etc etc (precursor to type 1 and 2 ads coming in the Spring!!!!).

I really need to leave some of these Fb groups. It’s like watching a car crash in slow motion…
 
There's a Facebook group called Bad livery yards and debtors or something.
It drives me wild.
It's full of anonymous posts from people basically either asking if
A) what their yard is charging is right /ok
And
B) can their YO do this (this being anything from not allowing access to school to only allowing certain vets at the yard)

The answer to both being: you are on someone's private property, you either pay what they ask or you leave. They can do whatever they want- as long as not unlawful - on their property. Again ,.either deal with it or leave.

These posters are probably people hoping that others would say "oh no ,that's way too much " or "no a YO shouldn't do that ". And usually it doesn't go their way ! 🤣

Why are horsey people so utterly mad and entitled that they think they can dispute what charges and rules someone has in place on their private property?

The problem is that based on what I have seen , the kid just can't and doesn't ride. Any inexperienced pony would take advantage in a situation where they are given no boundaries or guidance from the saddle.
All I've seen is an inexperienced pony making decisions because no one is making decisions for him.
That kid needs a been there - done that pony and to learn to actually ride.

The pony in question would probably be great for a kid who can ride , steer and tell the pony what to do.

In fairness the most ridiculous and gobsmacking stuff I’ve seen has been on my local FB marketplace, makes the entitled horsey folk look reasonable 😂 (it’s supposed to be a marketplace but loads of people think it’s a good place to have a moan about every little thing!)

I know of a 17hh 4 year old that has done nothing but be handled and have some tack on and a rider sit on that came in from the field lame. He has a stress fracture of a front leg. They were waiting for him to grow up.

My unbacked 4yo decided to put both feet in the water trough and then take the box with the ball in it off as she got out…scraping skin off her front legs as she went. The 4yo in work does nothing of the sort. A bit of work is so much safer than leaving them to get bored in my experience!!!!

I think you're right, he's definitely causing a bit of trouble since he was lightly sat on a month or so back. I have another 1.5st to lose until I will sit on him myself, but I am trying to keep him occupied with long reining around the field and in hand lateral work.
If only he would stop bloody growing 😆

A girl at our RC many years ago bought herself a young Irish mare, 4 yr old. She backed it and 4 weeks later rode it in its first little ODE. Not surprisingly, especially as it was badly tied in below knee and hock, it didn't stay sound. I saw her mum some years later, she still had the mare and had been breeding from it. Very intelligent girl and an excellent rider but no 'horse sense'.

I know someone who did exactly the same thing mare had really bad navicular due to really bad conformation basically the horse was a failed dressage horse and retired young. They keep breeding the ish mare with loads of differen types waremblood TB and Connemara. all of offspring had physical issues they blamed it on the stallions instead of looking at their mare. I was relieved when they couldn’t get the mare in Foal again because they would have kept breeding the mare had 7 foals . Unfortunately some people don’t have a clue when it comes to breeding .
 
Does anyone answer the "unicorn for 50p" people or is there no point?
There's another today & I do feel sorry for them but do you think they wander endlessly round Sainsbury's looking for fillet steak that's very cheap or do they just go home with the mince? Why do they not realise it isn't a matter of time or luck?
Also are they that poor anymore after a year - presumably they have a year's horse-keep money saved up now, that could add to the budget? Maybe they want a bargain?

Me and my mum have been looking for a new horse for around a year. We have had no luck whatsoever.

Far from the worst I've seen.

5k for a 16yo 14hh pony who can pop 70cm does not sound wholly unreasonable.

I've got a 17yo 15.2 who pretty much ticks their boxes who I would not think is worth 5k at his age.

I just sold my 15.2 cob mare, 15 years old, for 3.5k. The price is low more because she hasn’t done much in her life than because of her age. She’d tick all these boxes though. Maybe I under priced her…!
 
Looking for the impossible. Looking for my daughters first pony. Must be absolutely bombproof and be within 50miles. If further must tick all boxes. Ideally full loan for a few years or under £800.


Yup. Of course someone is just going to give you an absolute Saint of a pony for 1/10th it's price tag or completely free until your kid outgrows it or gets bored with it.
 
This is one post I had to not comment on as I start a fight but i sorry as a Irish person I have never heard anyone call a horse Irish draught sport horse and Say it a a traditional Irish horse. i don’t know why this person is so angry to i wonder can his horse not jump or isn’t the correct type for grading I also never saw a horse with a lot of ID that colour before.

This post has really irked me. Most of all because of all the laughing emoji ‘oh god sounds just like my mare , rofl, type replies. Urgh

Written from mare’s perspective:
To paraphrase:

I love to jump but pretend I don’t if you don’t ride me properly.
I don’t like numpties and will find you out but if you can ride I’m fine.
I pretend I hate people but I’m a softy underneath - but ya know, I’m a mare. And frankly a bit of a bitch
And I particularly hate vets so don’t even think of sending one of them my way.
I’m cheap (rude!) because I’m not your ‘put your granny on me push button’ and have frequent brat moments. But I am class so no silly offers.

Arghhh. So a horse who has the ability to perform when forced to by a strong rider, but is protesting loud and long. And who can’t be vetted. And whose owner clearly hasn’t bothered with a vet either.

With dozens of replies thinking that’s hilarious.

Marvellous.
