Cheeky/ridiculous posts you see on Facebook.

What on earth are they doing to Welsh Ds ?!
Not a specific post, I've seen several recently that look like the back of a horse cut-&-shut with the front of a llama! :(

Breeding them for the in hand show ring. You can’t fit a saddle on them and most of them break but hey, you get a nice upright neck and the curved back makes it look higher.

You need to look for unfashionable lines that aren’t being shown in hand. Some of the best D’s I’ve seen recently have been in harness classes. There’s a cracking chestnut with extensive white round here who pulls a milkman’s van, trots smartly with with good but not exaggerated action, and then he turns out in the fun showing classes with a tiny dot of a girl on his back and goes round like an old beach donkey. He’s worth a dozen of those show ring monstrosities.

I miss those types. I had a Dwyfor Section D in my teens. Hot but sensible, great conformation, turned his hoof to everything asked.

These days as you say, the conformation is awful and the temperament is wild.

Not FB but I'm going to have to stop using TikTok again because the algorithm has decided I want more horse content. Except that it's just a sea of bad riding, lame horses, and bad horsemanship. The latest being an overweight rider, in a too small saddle, poorly balanced, riding a veteran horse, that was very obviously unsound. But it's okay because it's mechanical lameness. Seriously, one of it's legs fully does not work properly and "gaining muscle" is going to fix that? Wtf?!

I keep having this account brought up and it makes me so angry, that woman is completely delusional. I wouldn't put her on a fit horse, let alone one which has SI issues and is clearly lame AND a veteran (and that's ignoring the fact she's also just started backing a young looking 3yo)

I had one brought up the other day where this guys horse had gone down with exhaustion (he's an American breaker) and he was laughing about how its the only way to get them on side, and videoed him still under this horse with it dripping wet and panting and I reported it for animal cruelty and Tik Tok reviewed it and came back 'no issue found'. It was so upsetting.

I would absolutely lose my mind.. I'm not paying £650+ a month for a child to learn how to do things around the yard.. And especially not to the likely detriment of the manners of my 4yo, not to mention the additional liability to both child and my horse. I have no objection to them working in a riding school (I did it a lot throughout my whole childhood) on school owned horses, in a place set up for kids, but they have no place on a commercial livery yard IMO.
When I did the "hanging round the RS" thing as a kid, we only looked after the horses belonging to the school. We were told in no uncertain terms that we were only to handle the liveries if there was an emergency, which even to my ten-year-old self seemed like common sense. But hey, I guess common sense really isn't all that common!

I'm another who has had to delete Tiktok.

The excuses people come up with to justify riding a horse who is clearly in considerable pain is really quite depressing.

There was one recently of a mare being tacked up who was kicking out, snaking her neck, ears pinned back and just generally screaming that she was uncomfortable. Plenty of comments pointing out that this behaviour isn't normal. Owner wouldn't have it. Adamant the mare is just fine, she just has 'attitude'

And dont get me started on bloody Sox. Poor stallion living his life in solitary. No wonder he behaves like he does. The ego of owning a stallion is far more important than his welfare. Should have been gelded decades ago.

A bit of a controversial one.
Video came up on my social media feed, girl doing a dressage test. Starts off ok, quite relaxed in the trot, a bit on the forehand and occasionally BTV as the balance wobbles but nothing horrendous. First canter transition and balance goes out the window, tense shooting forward head comes up and it’s running. Riders reins are too long and she’s being bounced off her seat, legs jammed forward and bracing. Then cuts away. Second transition into canter left is minorly better but you can see the saddle slip out to the right. Cuts again and then the proverbial hits the fan. Horse pees off with head sky high and the rider hanging on for grim death. Rider comes off. Next video of her is for a go fund me for a new hat 🤦‍♀️.

I get that nobody is perfect, we’re all learning and some horses aren’t easy but also flicking through the videos the rider has some real moments of being out of control and the horse looking unhappy.

I know exactly who you are talking about!

Dont follow them but like you the fall etc has popped up on my FB.

I also find it funny who shes allowed to 'take over' her page while she recovers as shes just as clueless to what shes doing (her TikToks pop up on my page every so often).

I couldnt imagine asking my 'fans' to pay towards a new helmet! 😅

I’ve had a flick though her videos and it seems like things are either ok or she’s about to die.
Maybe I’m old fashioned but there’s no way I would have been allowed to event something that inconsistent, it is dangerous.

Must admit I dont know about the one that fell. Before today I dont think their posts have shown up on my page (but I do recognise the name)

The local horsey Facebook page has now said if anyone posts that go fund me it will be deleted 😂 so beggy. Go and buy you own new hat. If you can’t afford a Samshield buy a cheaper one.
Redpost have a sale on them for 20% off, someone send her the link

I googled to see how much we are talking, does she NEED the £800 version with the stupid crystals on or does she not have £200

The go fund me is for £150.00
So at least she’s not after the pricey version.
It annoys me they have said they’ve sent the damaged hat back to samshield to see if they can repair it. Really?!
If I'm not mistaken, that is one of Samshield's selling points. As long as the exterior is intact, you can send the hat back for a full refurbish of the inside (used to be about £50, I think - I don't own a Samshield, but they're quite popular at the riding school)

That is actually more embarrassing somehow.

I suppose if you did have the fancy version you don't want your crystals in the bin so a repair makes sense?

I mean Im planning on replacing my helmet with a Samshield and the one I want is coming to around £350. But when I fall off in it, I will be replacing it out my own pocket! Its a part of horse riding that if you fall, your helmet needs replacing. I could never imagine asking someone to replace something so expensive, let alone 'fans'

I can think of a lot of good equine-related causes that need donations - some quite desperately.

IMO, contributing to someone's new riding hat isn't one of them, especially if they can (apparently) afford to keep a horse and compete in eventing. But I suppose people are free to do what they want with their cash...

I know there was a thread on here about social media horsey 'influencers' and I think it's just part of that culture.

Maybe it's just me, but I have to say that I'm also not fond of social media posts showing people in ambulances/hospitals etc after falling off.

If it's a post about being safe, adequately prepared and checking your safety equipment then I can get behind that, but it never bloody is. It's always HAHA MY CRAZY HORSE clickbait.
