Cheeky/ridiculous posts you see on Facebook.

I don't have much of a problem with this.

Not being able to do set days may not work for many, but there will be others who just want the horse ridden more and will just charge a day rate accordingly.
Me neither. I work part time with meetings according to client schedules, business needs, etc. Most of the time I can set my own schedule, but sometimes there are emergencies, or clients can only do a certain time, etc. I usually stick to a consistent schedule as much as I can (M/W/F last year), but it can change week to week.

I pay for my share with labour, not time, and therefore tend to help with project-type or one-off things rather than daily care (fencing, organizing/major clean up, holding for vet/farrier, etc). Lots of places where this wouldn't work, but it's actually pretty good for this place, as it also lets them say "no, not today, farm is too busy," AND they can call me up and say "help, we need an emergency fence repair, can you come?"

A bit like @Red-1, I always feel torn when I see oldies for sale. I took on my Old Lady as a 25 year old after the death of her owner. She was gifted to me with very little checks though I was the friend of a friend and they did come to see her settle in. She's been an absolutely perfect companion and now aunty to my foal. However, three years later and four teeth less, she will never be leaving my care. I can't think of anyone I would trust to invest the time and money necessary to keep her healthy at this point. Oh someone would take her on with the best intentions but the care would probably fizzle off and all her problems would be "old age" with little to no management.
The same way, I am always torn about horses on loan from charities that get checked on every 6 months / 1 year. I love that the charities care and take their responsibilities seriously, but I would not be able to do it. I want my horses to be mine, to manage as I see fit depending on the horse in front of me. I have visions of struggling to get permission to PTS a sick or struggling elderly horse because someone in an office thinks "it should have a chance". (I'm not saying this happens, but its one off my fears)
Just to put you at ease, although WHW check on my "Smalls" twice a year it's very much a curtesy call and they are very much my ponies to care for as I see fit. Within the loan agreement there's a specific clause around PTS is that it's my choice, if it's an emergency then I have permission by they expect to be notified. Same for yard moves etc.

I wonder when someone’s going to notice that they are missing a pony?

Pony is in good condition and is being cared for while the people who took him in look for the owners. The pony just walked in up their drive yesterday morning 😳. It's been reported to the police.

ETA Owners now found, but not til 24 hours after the pony was taken in by the Good Samaritans who cared for him when he turned up at theirs alone.

That is good to know, though I won't be adopting from WHW simply because I'm in France.

Looking for someone who would be available to muck out, fill Haynets, waters, mix feeds order hay and straw, keep the horses appointments with dentist and farrier's in check, turning out and in, so basically do everything that needs to be done. 8am and again at 5pm comment if any Interest and I will message you, so you can reply with your weekly rate. Ideally want 1 person 7 days a week so my horses don't like change.

does anybody really want to work 7 days a week? Doesn’t mention the amount of horses either. Could be a full time job.

He looks a super sweet sort! Some of the comments on the post are quite funny but glad he was reunited and not hurt on his travels

Many years ago one of our horses got out of the field - heaven only knows how as the others were still there and the fences/gates were all unbroken. Also to add they were kept at home, not on a livery yard. I obviously noticed first thing in the morning when I went to feed them and reported her missing to the police straight away and then spent all day cycling round the area to see if anyone had seen/heard anything.

Long story short she was missing for three days and the police assumption was that she had been stolen and was probably already out of the country. Fortunately one of my parents friend was the DC of the local pony club and they had spoken to her to ask that people keep a look out. Anyway on the third day this friend received a phone call from some-one who said that a horse had turned up in the field next to theirs but as there was no water to it they had been giving her buckets of water. Turns out it was our horse and the police had been called out on the night she went missing with a report of a loose horse and had caught her and put her in the field. For whatever reason they had not linked this to the report the following day of a missing horse ...

We were just very relieved to have found her and she was non the worse for her adventure.

I absolutely guarantee they only want to pay like 200 a week cuz “you’re not there all day”

Sounds like a nice pony but how sad to sell him on at 26 after 7 years :(

3yo cob being sold as a "novice friendly" ridden horse, previously driven, "can safely put anyone on board". It is 3?!

I actually really like him/his type. But again. 3.

Equally plenty of 3yr olds never change and remain safe and sane. Not for a novice who isn't going to spend a lot on education, but I just haven't seen these 3yr old turning into monsters. The laid back lazy blighters remain laid back lazy blighters!
I have to agree with you. In my experience a well started and handled 3yr old just gets better as they mature, but maybe I've been doing something wrong that any that I've handled have't turned into monsters.

Plenty of safe 3 year olds end up as not so safe 5yo…
In the right, competent hands, a gelding or mare might go through a Kevin stage at 5yo but will come out the other side as a solid, dependable 6yo.

I have had 3 year olds who decided they wanted to be first ridden ponies and did the job to perfection weeks after backing, never putting a foot wrong. But that was in a home where they had consistency and support and a continued education. Equally, I currently have a 4yo who was a very tricky 3yo. We have been consistent and patient and she is now described as a ‘unicorn’ by the families sharing her for their small children. She needed quiet but solid boundaries and time.

I also know of a pony who was perfect from birth in a competent home with consistent, appropriate handling - who got confused in a more novice home and is now struggling. Three year olds are children - they need to be treated as such if you want them to continue to be sweet, well behaved souls.
