All or nothing seems a bit extreme
When we had dogs they lived in the kitchen, they never went upstairs and I wouldn't be surprised if a rental place had similar rules
Yeah, but that’s your own house. I bet if a cottage advertised ‘dogs allowed, but not upstairs’ a significant proportion of people would ignore the ‘not upstairs’ bit, which makes the restriction rather pointless.
I think if you allow dogs you have to assume they are shedding and muddy and owned by irresponsible prats (and charge for cleaning accordingly).
I’m absolutely NOT saying that all dog owners would trash the place, just that you need to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

I saw this today, it made me giggle

I have a feeling she'll be getting a lot of messages asking about him!

We allow the dog on sofas (and beds) at home and, while we would absolutely try our best in a holiday cottage, he'd be up as soon as our backs were turned. That's why we always take 2 big throws with us to put over the sofa and the bed. He doesn't sleep on the bed but he does sleep upstairs (usually on the floor next to his very expensive comfy looking bed) and he will jump onto our bed before he goes to his bed to wrestle with OH - it's his bedtime routine and we know he wouldn't accept it not happening so we take appropriate measures to avoid getting anything dirty. I'm sure we're in the minority though, I imagine people either have better trained dogs than ours or just let them go everywhere.

He's doesn't shed and gets washed off after his walks as he loves the mud so we have that bit covered too with a million towels and a bath cleaning kit! As you say, I think cottage owners need to be prepared for the worst if they allow dogs. The chances are people who take their dogs on holiday are going to want to do lots of country walks so it's inevitable that dogs are going to get wet and muddy, what are owners supposed to do with them to get them clean so that they don't get the cottage dirty?

We stayed in a holiday cottage years ago (I didn’t book it) which said no dogs upstairs.

Someone failed to mention that it was only the bedrooms downstairs. The sitting room was upstairs. But they did have a safe “dog boot room”, it was a back porch with a gate. Except the gate was about 8 inches from the floor. So my poor terrier had to wait at the bottom of the stairs (which was fine as I had to stay close to the stairs to stop a crawling baby falling down.)

Such fun.

My YO keeps trying to set up her neighbours who's a single farmer ... He is very handsome 😅 she's so far been unsuccessful 🤔

Does stupid money for a foal = any money

Tom is very well respected locally- it will be good quality, well stored and that’s not out of line with the market value in this area
I had a lady enquire about a small pony for loan (off a Fb ad so still on topic!). She’s coming back to the UK from another country. I mentioned the hay shortage and she said, ‘But I have one and a half acres for a horse and a pony, I won’t need hay this winter.’

Ok then…

Advice needed

Brought a 1 year old colt off a dealer, he was stabled on the yard for 2 weeks, admittedly I didn’t get him out and trot him up I’m new to this and he’s only young so purchased him.
A few days later I was contacted by the old owner showing me he was kicked badly in the field and was very sore, was also made aware he was given to them for free to “rehome” because of him being kicked at a stud and was lame.
I brought this to the dealers attention and was told to ignore and block them there’s nothing wrong with him.
Took some videos of him in the school and even they weren’t great but as I say I’m new to this.
Recently moved to a new yard ( a week) and I’ve had 3 different people pull me and tell me the pony is lame and swollen, he’s having to be hand grazed and walked daily as I’m so worried about putting him out and him hurting himself even more. These people I’ve never met and know nothing about him and have pointed it out.
The vets want £270 to send an orthopedic vet to come and check him, this is before scans etc.
Ive messaged the dealer to be hit with “this could’ve happened in your care” ive said he’s been sold with an undisclosed injury and im not prepared to plough a load of money into a pony that may never be able to be used for what we wanted him to be used for. She’s saying he was not lame the day he left yet he wasn’t run up or lunged that day so how does she know that, all I’ve asked for is half my money back (£200) or I want to return him as not as described and I’m just not getting anywhere and wondering am I in the wrong?

The mind boggles. Poor pony

Saw that one. If you read the comments the owner has had this poor pony for a few weeks without getting any veterinary treatment. It looks like it's only the pressure from other liveries at the new yard which is causing her to have a think about her lack of care. At one point she suggests that the vet has refused to come and has suggested to her (without ever having seen the pony) that it doesn't need a visit. There's some other numpty who's defending this individual with the "be kind" nonsense when other people on dd are telling her to get the pony seen by a vet. Even more sad this individual claims to own another horse.
