Cheeky/ridiculous posts you see on Facebook.

Tbf I went every day after school too, but that’s just me 😁
Me too.

Working for my £25 a week livery.. somehow for a few years a worked both weekend days and a few days after school got to go hunting if you helped with the yard that day as well. Years before I got brave enough to ask to get paid actual money for the other days. Mum was very much it’s your choice… but you’re being took for a ride. I was helping back youngsters, we started at 7:30 when boss would come get us, some times in the summer we’d be bringing in the last rides at 9 o’clock 🙃 sometimes I would literally just change pony and be riding for 6-7 hours 😂😂

I learnt a lot. Good and bad but realistically without that opportunity I would have never been a good enough rider to work with horses, go to college or actually learn to ride (everything but the basics was pretty much self taught in terms of working a horse properly…). I hope kids are still getting that experience out there.

But Good God I put weight on when I stopped that 😂😂 I’d never ever had to watch what are as a teenager. I was a rake (didn’t appreciate it at all..) eating everything and anything! Hard habit to break.

I’ve been researching getting a Patterdale. So obviously every social media platform I use the algorithms are working overdrive 🤣. YouTube recommended a channel with a guy and his terrier who do rat pest control. All fine until I read they have a go fund me… curiosity got the better of me and this has to be up there with some of the audacious go fund mes. I’ve removed names.

🤮🙄🤮. Seriously some people are cheeky. They want £300 and are nearly there. They have nearly 250k subscribers so will be getting income from YouTube anyway.

Sooooo many FB posts are so obviously written by AI. Many of them have this weird turn of phrase that would have sounded quite good if it was original but is now a cliched giveaway:

That’s not x, it’s y wearing a z

That’s not horsemanship, it’s ignorance dressed up in cowboy boots.

That’s not welfare, it’s neglect wearing a smiley mask.

That’s not law and order. It’s brutality wearing a badge.

And on and on. Sets my teeth on edge.

I'd be happy to pay doggo and owner to actually come and kill some of my rats, but I can't imagine why anyone would go "oh look, a cute little rat killer. I really don't know what to do with my money, can I give you some?"

Absolutely abhor how AI has, over the past maybe eighteen months or so, insidiously become the accepted norm for images and text on pretty much every platform, even billboard ads irl. Human creativity is a corpse at the feet of the robot we assembled now.

I didn't hear the piece but there was a mention on the radio yesterday of a chat room for chatbots....presumably plannning how they take over the world.

A lady has posted in a TB off the track group wanting a chunky TB on loan. The post is accompanied with a photo of her on a horse at a show. She is on a fine TB and too big/heavy for it.
People have very tactfully pointed this out. OP has just said thanks I’ve owned TBs before.

Another poster has been less tactful and come straight to the point she’s too heavy for the horse she’s riding in that photo.
Her response
thank you! I'm not looking for a fine tb 😅 I understand the rule completely. The mare in the picture we placed 1st in that class and went on to become reserved championship

Which to me shows that people at the show - I’m guessing a local show, were too scared to say anything as there is no doubt in this case she is too big.

More worryingly someone has offered her a horse - although it is unbroken

It’s really sad.
This lady would be absolutely fine on something bigger and less fine.
But the 15.2 TB isn’t a great choice.

I’ve got a ‘friend’ on Facebook. She is a nice lady and does her utmost for her horses. But she isn’t blessed in the physically slim department and I’ve actually had to hide her posts as I find it so distressing. She bought a very small slight tb mare as a 3/4yo and has done all the work herself. But she is way to heavy for the horse and all I see is a hollow struggling horse being asked to do stuff it’s not physically capable of doing with her on top. Unsurprisingly the horse has just been operated on for kissing spines. Just makes me so sad as it is so avoidable.

It is sad, and it also makes me cross that people with the objective knowledge, and the direct contact with the rider (e.g. vet, showing judges) are not saying/doing something.

Although having thought that through as I typed, I suppose the vet might have said something, but couldn't refuse to do the KS surgery, because that would increase or prolong the horses' suffering ( but then that has to be weighed up with the risk of surgery and likelihood of the rehab failing due to rider wieght.....).

I do think it's about time the rest of the showing world followed the example set by the Great Yorkshire Show - I htink 2 years ago now?

I paraphrase:
‘Selling our 7 year old pony because they’re no longer the plod we bought. Sold from field - bucks and has ulcers. We did a vetting and x rays and are selling on as a project.’

Videos of a pony that doesn’t look 7 - not solid enough. So something is going on to cause the ulcers and the bucking.

probably inappropriate feeding & turnout.
I suspect as a cob he is on a bare paddoock and has virtually no hay over night, a lot of people seem to keep cobs like that because they are worried about Lami. Horse inevitably gets ulcers, turns into a monster (understandable, ulcers are awful) and then they sell on and do the same to the next pony.

The better way is to put it on tired old but not bare grazing, year old hay mixed with straw and a lot more work! that way they have enough forage to keep the ulcers at bay, the work keeps the weight off and the poor quality grazing keeps them moving and stuff going in thier bellies but not the calories.
