I gave up waiting for ITV and watched it all on Sporting Life, they have all 7 the races and no need to fast forward through the talking!

It's finally there just in time for after my shower!

I wish fast forward worked how it did with videos in that you could see what you were skipping

That way I could ff through any betting then play for the interesting segments/races

Wonder if they showed the ROR parade, lots of well known names in it. Surprised Tiger Roll doesn't ever parade as he won so many times at a festival, not sure if he gets ridden though

Cross country has been cancelled, not being run at all. Shame I like watching that one, means only 4 televised races today unless you have RTV

Thought they'd have maybe kept it pencilled in for tomorrow or Friday

Sad for NH but I'm glad for the horses sake. Hope that maybe a couple of weeks lighter training will allow them to shine at Aintree.

Strange that they all scoped clean after racing and yet ran so badly in the last 3/4 mile. Same as lots of his saturday runners over the last month, yet the odd one, like Luccia yesterday, runs really well.

Looks like it will be another year with an Irish monopoly of winners.

Such a shame for the Henderson team. I am struggling a bit with it after yesterday, kept thinking about poor Highland Hunter and Ose Partir lsat night.
Yes, I was nervous about the xcountry race so I'm pleased they decided against running it.

Really hope all horses return to their stables safe and well today and for the rest of the festival.

Slight aside and sorry it's behind a paywall but this comment piece is a good summary of why the 'affordability' checks are not overall a good thing for racing. In light of some of the betting that will be taking place at Cheltenham this week and online over the 4 days....

It would be interesting to see these figures for the Irish racing scene which is so dominant this week and will likely be again at Aintree. I think I read somewhere that GElliot has 22 entered for the Grand National?

--------------------------

With around £246 million distributed in 2023, France leads the field in terms of prize money, as well as breeders’ and owners’ premiums, and maintains the best ratio of keep and training expenses to prize money per runner in Europe. The average prize per race in Britain is £16,000, but in France it’s £24,000, and in Japan it’s £53,000.

Japan and France have state monopolies on betting, so it is inevitable that there will be some differences. In the UK, given that bookmakers handle £13 billion of bets a year on horse racing, we instead have a state “levy” on bets placed by UK punters. After settling bets, bookies make about £1.2 billion.

and this:

The number of jump horses running with a rating of over 130 has dropped by 35 per cent since 2021. Quality matters from an integrity and animal welfare perspective as well. No one wants to see horses entered just to “make up numbers”, trailing at the back or getting hurt.

Racecourses welcome five million people a year, attending 1,400 fixtures. Racing supports over 80,000 jobs and raises £300 million for the Exchequer. Four of the top 10 best-attended sports events held annually in the UK are major horse-racing festivals.

I know NH gets a lot of stick from punters, but I for one, really appreciate the love and care he shows the horses that he trains. Hopefully they will come back stronger for Aintree 🤞🏼

Also glad the cross country race has been cancelled. It’s a race I love to watch but with the awful weather we have had, it would zap the energy from the horses and I really don’t want to see anymore fatalities this week.

Bit poor they haven't done something to accommodate the cross country being lost, they knew it was looking iffy, how about running it as a chase over the same distance, then those already entered can either take part or not, surely at least some would?

It's the premier fixture and we are just getting 4 itv races - most of the ones entered if not all are chasers so no reason they couldn't have something over the normal course, especially as the warning signs were there, and they aren't rescheduling it

At work but there's a clip of the finish on ITV racing FB - was that another NH runner tailed off?

Yes - it was another NH horse tailed off and Nico gave Matt Chapman short shrift when he rather stupidly asked for his jockey comment as Nico returned to the weighing room.

Annoyed that with all the spare time ITV aren't showing yesterday's ROR parade and also slightly more of the horses in the paddock.

The only good thing about watching on catch up was the betting ring and "social stable" coverage could be fast forwarded. I don't want to hear about bets worth tens of thousands it's obscene

Why can't they at least show each horse in the parade ring, the fields aren't that big for most races to prohibit this. same for the ROR parade (there's some lovely pics on their Instagram) lots of them were big names, promote them enjoying retirement

I also find it really interesting when Megan Nicholls looks at the horses before hand and gives us insight as to how they are looking/built etc, although also find Alice good as you can hear her passion - how about having one either side of the parade ring, that way you could cover all horses too...

It'll never happen but it would be good if there was a red button option, for those more interested in the horses and behind the scenes with less betting. It's good it's on mainstream TV, but in F1 in the down sections they do interviews with drivers/behind the scenes/analysis

Ruby's analysis is always very interesting to listen to when he's in that hub
