Just received this by email:
I know from your recent kind rehoming of hens from our rescue that you are someone who cares about chicken welfare. So I am taking the liberty, exceptionally, of passing on the appeal below from Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.
He is trying to challenge Tesco's record of buying cheap chicken meat from sources which keep chickens in really poor conditions. He is seeking to bring a resolution to the Tesco AGM, calling on Tesco to improve the lives of the chickens it markets. This has been widely publicised in the press and you may already have received this appeal from another source. (In which case apologies).
Tesco is doing all it can to prevent Hugh's resolution going forward - it has now demanded that he finds £87K by noon Wednesday to fund a separate distribution of the resolution to shareholders otherwise they won't let it go forward.
He needs all the chicken lovers of the country to contribute a few pounds to make
this possible. Can you help?
I promise I won't make a habit of "spamming" you like this about the work of other people or organisations. (I have never done this previously, but Hugh has just 2 days to achieve
a miracle so it seemed a bit urgent!)
well, it touched me... my 10 new "batties" (ex-battery hens) are now happily scratching around here, laying eggs, being assaulted by the cockerel (who can't believe his luck). they were a very sorry sight when they arrived, and are now very happy chooks. this appeal will make a difference to millions of chickens' lives.
i've donated a bit already, please please have a look here
