Child "Influencers" (Exploitation)

Ugh. I hope you're wrong, but I definitely wouldn't put it past them. They HAVE started doing a really irritating thing where posts shared to a group show up just as the original post, and you can't tell it's a share to a group unless you click through, so it looks like your personal feed is getting more random. If they are rolling it out everywhere, it hasn't reached me yet. Fingers crossed it gets lost on its way!

(For anyone wondering how to find "your" feed: on desktop, open the main page, and in the lefthand menu, there's an option that says "Feed" and has an icon that looks like a stylized browser window with a clock on top. They like to move it around, so sometimes you have to click on "see more" first. On mobile, it's sometimes on the menu at the bottom of the app, and sometimes you have to click the three lines menu to open it up. On mobile the icon can sometimes look like the RSS icon.)
 
Migrate to the fediverse. Mastodon's alright. No ads, no child influencers, just posts from people I choose to follow, in chronological order. It's more a twitter substitute than facebook, but it's civilised, unlike X. Facebook is increasingly grim - I mostly only use it to moderate few groups (medieval group still has a presence there, but most folk have migrated to Discord instead), and check up on the bell ringing local group (demographically challenged for Mastodon!).

I disagree though, as to me there is a very big difference between someone watching a TV series about a couple in Chelsea, and someone being aware of equestrian influencers via discussions. Especially for people on an equestrian forum, where they have discussions. And I don't see one as linked to the other.

As an aside (and it's just a grumble from me as it is really annoying me today), I don't know if you use facebook or not, but recently my facebook feed is mostly content that I DON'T follow. I have a hundred odd friends, follow many pages/groups linked to my particular interests, yet the content that facebook thinks I really want to see first is someone I don't know, writing in a language I don't even recognise the characters of, followed by a handful of sponsored posts, then a handful of suggested posts I might like, then I may get a couple of posts from groups/people I follow. Then, after a dozen or so posts, I may actually see a post from one of my 'favourite' friends. That they posted a week ago... :rolleyes::mad:. Bit off topic, but the point I was going to make is that no one needs to follow any equestrian influencers to be aware of them or see their posts - facebook is probably more likely to show you the post of an influencer you don't follow than someone you do care about.

No, as stated, none of those mediums of communication; I certainly don’t have 100+ ‘friends’, but do have a far smaller number of people I know very well and can rely on for support or brutal truth; and since you (and others) are being smothered with such unwelcome communications, must query why you continue to engage?
Prior to mention on here about a named pony-girl, whom I had to google to make any sense at all of the post, was wholly oblivious to the issue of child/pony influencers - full stop.
You absolutely do not need to read this stuff, no one does, I don’t know how anyone with horses to look after, jobs to do, homes to run and actual, flesh and blood friends and family to see, has any time to do so? Given that oxygen of publicity is what feeds it, stepping right away might prove a step in a more effective direction.

Ah, sorry, the facebook grumble wasn't directed at you for a response, it was just a grumble about facebook as it had been irritating me. I wouldn't say I was smothered by the posts on facebook though, just a bit annoyed, and unfortunately I rely on facebook for learning and discussion regarding one of my businesses, so it benefits me to continue to engage with it, irritation or otherwise. I do indeed have horses to look after (2), jobs to do (2), businesses to run (2) but luckily for me, I just have the one home to run. Otherwise I'd never get time to be on here! 😂

It's great that you find time to share so many of your opinions with us despite your busy life. I'm sorry you don't have many friends though:(

My pet hate on faceache is how it keeps sending me "old woman suggestions" - ie adverts for magic potions to cure all kinds of ailments (not), tests for dementia, special shoes for arthritic feet. OK, I know I'm old, in pain but d*mm it all I am still capable of researching possible cures and 99.9% of the stuff it keeps touting are scams anyway. :eek: :mad: Arghhhhhhh

I get some of that too, but I am not worrying too much until the tempting (to my son, for me :eek: ) nursing home, or even more alarming, the 'lets plan your funeral' ads start scrolling across my timeline. ;)😂
 
I only use fb on an old desktop computer and I can cut out a lot of the rubbish by going to the menu and clicking on 'Feeds'. Then it will show me things I have chosen to be interested in. The occasional ad still creeps in, but it's not as bad as the main feed.

And still miss the point that it's not about (or not intended to be about) mulling the doings of child influencers. Firstly because, early on in the thread a good point was made that they are not influencers, they are being exploited and I changed the name of the thread to reflect that. And second, because it's that random people on the internet shouldn't know anything about theses children's to mull.
