I cant find how to do a poll, so I am interested to hear your views on the above.

Today I have found loads of spent lanterns, and tonight there where at least 100 let off near me.

What are your views?

I can't see a problem with them (although it might not be wise to use them at the moment with everything being so dry)!

They are a blinkin' nuisance: firstly they are a nightmare fire hazard, especially at the mo when everything is so dry - its a real worry to farmers coz if they landed in a cornfield the whole lot could go up, similarly thatch roofs and common land areas where everything is so dry.

Then there is the metal element inside which when the lamp goes out, drops. Cattle/livestock can and do pick this up and get it inside them.

They should be banned IMO.

Agree with MiJodsR2- had one land in our field. It is known that they can kill cattle because of the wire. Wouldnt want one getting round my horse's legs or landing on a thatched roof! They are also not safe to release near filling stations or airports but no one ever reads/follows the instructions!

I think they are pretty, but my farmer husband is against them, as they have been coming down in our hay.

I now am getting fed up with them, although pretty, there are sooo many around, and my home is surrounded by dry crops, it is quite scarey.

My suggestion is to ban them between July and September!!!!!

Petetion anyone?

Agree with you all. I found one out side my stable weds. All i could think was wow could of set the place alight. OH, said they only come down when the candle has gone out. The wire is a pain. All i can say is good job my horse was not in as she would not have liked it. Also found one in the field. grrrrrrrrr

I think we will be finding a lot of the wire frames in hay and straw this winter, I picked a couple up after the hay had been cut, so I think I will be puffing hay up before putting it in the nets just incase.

The coastguard and NFU have put an Ad campaign warning out about them

I think they are a pain in the arse and dangerous for crops!

Wasn't there talk of making the frame out of something softer/decomposable so they posed less of a risk?

I don't think they can come down when they're lit. I suppose they could still be hot, though.

They're pretty, I wouldn't like to see them banned but I hope they can be made safer.

Just another stupid thing the zombie class have found to waste their money on :D

I didn't think they could come down when they are lit either... they burn themselves out before falling to the ground.

The wire is a problem although there are biodigradeable ones now - but more expensive so most won't bother I suppose.

I have not heard of these things at all! Mind you, I live in a seaside town, and although it's hot and dry we also seem to have a constant S West or N East wind blowing, so anything like this would either blow out or would be about five miles away in a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately, I CAN believe that people would be stupid enough to copy a TV advert and release these things without considering where they will land. Sort of the same mentality as taking your McDonalds to a local beauty spot to enjoy of an evening and then dumping the rubbish on the floor when you leave

My neighbours let these off every bonfire night. A couple of years ago the majority just cleared my stable block, but one actually came down on my muckheap, still lit as it had only travelled about 100 yards. Glad I was there

I came across one today while out hacking, it was quite big about the size of a dustbin, it's the first time I have actually seen one, it was rolling along in the breeze towards us, his lordship didn't like it and veiwed it very suspiciously with a veiw to spooking, I saw the wire which others have mentioned, I can see why others arent happy regarding it getting into hay ect
 but as I said, my real worry is the fire hazard:(
