My horse has had choke twice in the last 3 months.
I have owned him for a year this month and never noticed it happen before.
Changes: 1) moved yard in Nov and this yard has smart hay feeders. 2) Old yard I used a haylage net.
Could this be the case? Gulping down hay and if so he must gulp super fast as he is 100% ok when I lead him into his stable them literally both times a moment later he is uncomfortable, coughing and squeaking!
First time cleared massaging throat, second time, put a hose in his mouth for 10 seconds and it cleared it.
So scary.
Not food/dinner related as both times were before evening feed was placed in stable.
Advise welcome please to avoid or clear asap if happens again.
Thank you

Someone else asked me if he was hungry but he has a fantastic 20 acre paddock that he shares with 1/2 others, amazing grazing, out from 8am - 5/5pm often not wishing to be bought in as happily munching away.
So I don't think he is hungry? Could be wrong though.

Anything is worth a try, if the field hay is not touched then you can discount the hungry theory. I think I would go back to using haylage net which he used to!

My 2 girls have a 4 acre paddock to themselves and they still get through a load of hay during the day.

Presume he has his teeth checked ...

Choke is bot from gulping food, choke is from not chewing the food enough, so teeth, therefore no producing enough saliva to help pass the food down the oesophagus. When were his teeth last done, dampen food esp chaff. Soak hay but unless teeth are up todate it wont help anything
