I keep my horse on a livery yard that is going through some changes at the moment, resulting in me needing to move from my stable in one barn into another stable in a different barn.

I have two choices and I'm really torn about which choice to make. Overall, my choice will be somewhat affected by what the others in the barn I'm currently in choose to do - but I don't know what all of them are doing yet

Option 1:
12x12 basic stable
Already 6 or so horses stabled in this barn - if all of us move into here, it will be full of about 12 horses, which worries me when it comes to space to move horses up and down the walkway safely when others are tied up outside the stable
Feed and tool storage, but no tack room (would have access to secure tack room in the other barn)

Option 2:
Slightly bigger stables with automatic water drinkers
Much quieter currently - only three other horses but there are 14 possible stables, so not sure whether my horse will be next to/near another horse when stabled. He's not really bothered about being in alone though.
Feed, tool and tack storage available
Has large barn doors that you can close to keep really bad wind and weather out

I'm not sure which to go for... any opinions welcome!

Option 2. Have moved yards and my boy has a much bigger stable that he can properly move around in, with more natural light and better ventilation. It’s so much better and he’s happier overall.

seems to me like option 2 is a nobrainer, too :D

I also don't understand why people are allowed to tie up outside stables in the first barn, if space is limited. I almost never tie up outside, just got out of the habit of it when I moved somewhere with corridors instead of open spaces. realistically only do so for washing or for the farrier.

Well, it's obvious isn't it?

To get in everyone else's way and be a huge PITA :D

Yep not understanding the dilemma from the information provided. Option 2, bigger stable, probably quieter, tack room etc more convenient, automatic drinkers also nice if you have to do the water yourself. On the tying up outside stables in option 1, people shouldn't be allowed to do it if it is not safe to do so so I would be suggesting that rule if I needed to go for option 1 for some reason.

I know 12x12 is the standard but it's the absolute minimum I'd accept for a horse of mine. When it comes to stable size, bigger is def better!

Sorry everyone - I was exhausted when I wrote this last night and brain was buzzing with work stuff as well! Looking back at it, it really seems like a no-brainer based on what I wrote...

The only reason I'm really torn is because of the social/personal aspect to it all. There are a few of us who will have to move, and there's enough space in barn 1 for all of us. If I'm the only one who chooses to move to barn 2, not only will my horse be alone when the horses are in overnight but also, I'll cut myself off from everyone else. My horse definitely prefers being with others, and at the moment it wouldn't be a problem because they're all out 24/7-ish. But soon they'll have to start coming in at night.

So, until I know what the others are doing, what would you go for - company or space?
