Just curious to see what peoples responses are:)
I am lucky that we now live a mere 8 mins away from the yard where horses at so of COURSE I am going to go up on Christmas day to see them!
Are any of you buying your horse a christmas pressie & any ideas for a very special treat???

ahemn:o, well.....every pony in my section of the yard will be getting a can of guinness or two from me....... plus a game of apple bobbing, and a bag of treats - Shy will have a four pack and a special pressie too, but don't tell him, or anyone else, as he's underage.. ;)

Oh and he'll have me twice a day as normal, plus a Christmas Day ride (before the boozing starts).

Well if I don't go no one else will!!! :)
I'll be there twice just like a normal day, complete with presents for the ponies :) not sure what to get them yet though!

Yep, presents galore! And an advent calendar so he can count down the days :O)

Ill be up bright and early on Christmas day to cuddle my pony x

Yes always see the horses on Christmas Day, they still need checking on, feeding etc! Plus christmas wouldnt be the same if i didnt see him!
Not sure what I will get the new boy this year though, sure I will get some ideas from this thread though!

i will do mine the same as usual, just wont ride, will be mucked out , groomed and turned out am and bought in and rug changed pm....she wont get a present as i feel she has a pretty perfect life all year round..im the one who looks after her daily, im the one who needs a present!!!!!!!

As I keep mine at home if I don't do them no-one else will. They don't know it's a day any different from any other. They also won't be stuffed with treats - there's apparently a rise in colic cases over Christmas with people overfeeding or feeding unusual foodstuffs as a "treat" for their horses.

My horse's Christmas present will be that she gets to hunt Christmas eve and boxing day :D

Of course I will be up to see to her, twice as usual, Christmas is just another day as far as animals are concerned.

Yup, he gets an advent calender too :P I will see him twice on Christmas day as usual, will go for a tinselly ride too :) and of course lots of presents!

twice a day as usual but might give them a carrot which they never get and an extra big feed and taz has some chocolate cake as its his favouite :) other than that the horses dont get presents... i get presents to me for them though like head collars, numnahs, lead ropes, treats, new bridles etc but they are really for me as they wouldnt be wearing them if it wasnt for me :p

Twice as usual for me too. Mine gets two good (for her) feeds. Pony nuts, meadow mix or similar & chaff, dollop of mollasses & chopped fruit & veg. And a whole swede in the stable. Daughters pony gets a very tiny portion of the same, & a cup of mocha in a bucket. And daughters pony gets presents as daughter always asks for at least a few things for her for xmas.

Only change in routine for mine is that they get a slightly larger feed. They don't know it's a 'special' day.

Personally I don't see why people wouldn't go see their horses on Christmas Day, especially the people who are on DIY who just give the horses extra hay on Christmas Eve and then leave them til Boxing Day, but maybe that's just me.

Normal twice a day visits certainly no one else here will do them for me Christmas day or not and I will then have to come home and make the full Christmas fare! I also try and pop round and help yard owner with her full liveries. Take up a box of goodies for the staff that do come in too.

Yes, it's just a normal day. Although, weather permitting, I always really enjoy my Christmas Day ride, because there's usually nobody around but me and the horse, everybody else is inside opening presents, cooking turkeys...

I do give the horse his Christmas orange, though (he loves oranges but only gets them very occasionally). Apart from that, business as usual :)

I will get my girl a present not sure what yet though, probably some brushes as she loves being groomed....more a present for me than for her! We will be down there twice a day as per normal and this year we (me and my 9 year old mini me) will probably go for a little hack round the farm if it isn't too icey :)

If i dont do them no one else will!! dont get to ride xmas day anymore now we have little lady but we go up and check them as a family after prezzy opening (they live out and YO checks everyones got legs etc when she walks her dogs am+pm) only prezzy they get is an apple or carott which since they're both fattys and dont usually get fed is a big deal for them :D

Yup to both. Presents from me will probably just be extra treats, my mum likes to buy them some expensive presents. I don't ride tho, too much food waiting at home for me!

Twice a day as yard does feed only service at Xmas.

He will get a couple of the new Xmas likits (NOT all at the same time) which I will probably test 1st :p

GreyDonkey is on DIY so twice a day as usual on Christmas Day . . . he'll get some carrots and apples in his water and an extra cuddle or two, but it'll be business as usual for him I'm afraid. Don't have enough money this year to buy him any presents but then he doesn't know it's Christmas ;).

I'll get up super early and turn/muck him out first thing and then OH and eldest daughter will go back while I'm cooking dinner in the afternoon to bring him in and put him to bed.

I may make him wear a Santa hat at some point though ;).

P

Horses at home - just a normal day. They don't know it's Christmas and having to bring them in at night gives me the excuse to leave the family gathering early!

Guiness? Is this something horses like? I'd never ever have thought of this! However, i hate the bloomin stuff, and have been known on several occasions to reject free pints on st paddys day!
And yes i'll see her once as usual (part livery) to feed etc. but no extra pressies. She's a horse, not a child. (Oh well, ok maybe an extra carrot or two)
