Christmas treats for the Army service dogs!

Well as I've said on the other thread, the dogs don't know when xmas is to they could be sent after xmas, and even preiodically through the year

Does anyone know if this is real? The info was posted on another forum, and has now been amended to say it is a scam and there is no soldier of the name given.

Hope not if it is then some people as we know are sick, is the address an actual MOD address ? I believe OP has checked this ?

I have posted another thread but I will repeat here - I rang the MOD this morning, it is not a scam. The address is to the dog handling section in Afghan. The soldiers name and number are not allowed to be posted on the internet but the rest of the address is and that would be the address given to you if you contacted MOD to send something out there. 02072189000 is the number of the MOD switch board who will in turn put you through to public relations and they will tell you the same thing if you wish to contact them. :)

eta - it was suggested we send a communal parcel - if anyone would like to do this instead of making their own you can PM me for my address and send things to me and I will make one up. (PS it will not be my personal address)

Mr V, well done for all your efforts. As Camp Bastion is the main military base in Afghanistan, its hardly top secret address. I shall just put Dog Unit, Camp Bastion, Somewhere in Afghanistan! ;) If the postal service can deliver letters to Father Christmas Somewhere in the North Pole, I'm sure the military postal service can find Camp Bastion.:D

Without a name and number the parcels won't be delivered (and apart from the odd numpty member of staff the Post Office won't accept them to begin with). They have to be addressed to named service personnel. Any without a return address are also very likely to be rejected. Anything ending in 'Afghanistan' is also very likely to wind up in the civilian postal system instead, as mentioned on the BFPO website.

It's a lovely idea but I think very flawed, the bloke's name and number shouldn't be splashed about the place like that, it seems to have gone a bit viral and they are likely to be inundated with parcels when there's not that many dogs over there, some of the contents are bound to be unsuitable and wasted and it will be clogging up the BFPO system at a time when family parcels ought to have priority (AABS stop sending from this week for this reason). People sending stuff to 'A Soldier' have been blamed in the past for clogging up the system and potentially jeapordising the free post system.

If anyone wants to give or do something I'd urge looking at charities like Combat Stress, BLESMA, Soldiers off the Streets, H4H and the like instead. :) I was certain there was a charity which helped provide therapy dogs to ex soldiers, desperately trying to remember the name.

The lady I spoke to said things could be sent to that address.

The blokes name and number should not have been given out and they are no investigating who gave it out etc etc.

there is a BFPO number which would make sure it was sent on military airlines. The lady said if you rang up the MOD wanting an address to send out to Afghan but not a particular person then that would be the address given.

eta - Fully agree that they will clog up the postal service just before Christmas - But I see no problem with sending things next year?

eta again - I also agree that there are probably only around 50? dogs over there.. but still don't see any harm sending things.
