Hacking basically. Booked arena hire on Monday but my owner has pinched it for her daughter - she's going on a fun ride on Wednesday so I'm going to harass her over some jumps on Monday ?
After being spooky and generally full of himself today hopefully I'll get supercob out for a good canter tomorrow, he definitely needs it.
I was looking at a stressage for Sunday, but my owner is busy so I've no transport

Sod all. We are in full on lockdown again over here so there won’t be much happening!
OH got me an Equestic for Xmas though so will be having a play around with that tomorrow! It’s basically a sensor you clip to your saddle, it throws back data on the work you’ve done, the horses stride pattern etc etc. I can’t wait to have a go with it. Bit of a novelty but also hopefully will help me be a bit more focused in schooling. Starting a masters in Feb so I am going to have even less spare time, so if this helps optimise training, it’ll be a winner.
Beyond that, I will probably just be eating and drinking too much ?

Rode out with a friend this morning dressed up in Christmas stuff. It was fun! Tomorrow i want to try and walk my youngster up the rode on his own. Then ride B in his new dressage saddle as its much more friendly on my hips. Fingers crossed the weather holds. Might do the same sunday.

Enjoy what ever you are doing x

Had a lesson on new lease horse this morning. His name is JD, he's a 14yo TB who has done a lot of adult riders, and he is very sweet. His owner says he likes "looking pretty in an arena" so hopefully he can teach me to look pretty too haha. Hacked him on Thurs and he was a saint- esp as OHs Standy was threatening to run off on him!
Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!

I was going to go for a hack but I didn't really feel up to riding today. Partly because I fell off last week so getting back on each time feels like even more of a push, partly because the weather was quite gloomy, and partly because I ate/drank too much yesterday so felt a bit bleugh today. Not ill, just bleugh.

So I cleaned share horse's bridle instead, which I found quite satisfying. I'll push on with riding another day :)

Went for a hack with my sister on her loan pony (first time we’ve been able to hack together - she got her pony after I moved Henry away). Was all going swimmingly until he took offence to a bush on the bridlepath, dropped his shoulder, span, dumped me and legged it home up the road ?

luckily everyone is fine, and apparently he still knows exactly where home is despite not having lived here for 6 months... that’s what you get for getting complacent on a fresh, fit, known-to-be-spooky/sharp horse ? oh well, we will try again tomorrow...

I've been bullied into going showjumping on Sunday. I have late time (jumping under floodlights ☹️) but at least the storm should have blown through by then. I haven’t actually competed for months and the horse is likely to be a spooky horror

bullied ?
Stupid motivation and trying to be on top of where we need to be, then reality kicked in when we saw our stupidly late times.

I am genuinely dreading it but don’t want to waste £30

anyway not sure why you are moaning, my times are worse, I don’t live 10 mins away like you and I didn’t actually get in but because you stropped I pulled a favour...

I will pack gin....

Had a lovely hack out on coblet on Christmas Eve, she's such a dude.
Then managed a short hack on Christmas day in the sun with the rehabbing boy. Showed his appreciation by colicing in the afternoon, so spent the rest of Christmas day going back and forth to the yard to check on him (no vet needed and was fine).
Quickly schooled cob this morning and spent the rest of the day on the sofa making up for yesterday.
Will probably jump tmw and some inhand poles after the storm passes. Then on Monday, the vet is out to check on my boy and see if it's worth carrying on with rehab or not.

The weather cleared this afternoon so I took Blue in the school and did some flat work- nothing very exciting but we are starting to get a consistent outline in the walk, which I'm pretty pleased with.

I'm off work next week too (teacher), so hopefully the ground will dry out and we can get some hacking in as well!

We had a lovely fun hack today.
Supercob has had a quiet week or two, and is pretty fit as cobs go. I've said for a couple of days he needs a canter, so today we went for one.
Now, I knew I was in for something interesting as I put on his tail guard (flashy job) and he leapt in the air...
We left the yard with his back up and back legs ready for bouncing, got down to the road and cracked on for a trot to settle him a bit, which it did for the most part. When we got to the bridle path there were a few walkers about so we had about half our normal stretch for a canter but it was all going quite well. Through a stile to the next bit, past a few walkers and fml there us a guy coming at speed on a mobility scooter with a dog on a flexi. Supercob is great with so many things but genuinely frightened of mobility scooters. We stopped, guy kept coming at pace - youre alright love my dog wont bother you - yeah its the scooter I got out, as we reared and span and bogged off 3 strides. So he finally slowed then stopped and after another spin and 2 small rears we managed to pass it.
So I kicked on for a trot as there were too many people for a canter. We survived the next 15 minutes quite well so had another canter, sort of heading back now and we were in a place he often gets a bit strong so I was mindful not to let him away from me. We cantered, he started to get strong, so I asked for trot, got bronked for my trouble, when that didn't change my mind he performed an emergency stop assuming the brace position and bronked a few more times. Disgusted that I hadn't participated in the emergency landing process he picked up and bogged off a bit more, so I went for a one rein stop and rode through the bushes a bit, styled it out with a 3m circle round a tree and walked back out on to the track.
On the next section I spotted the mobility scooter on the way back. I got off and lead before it started to be an issue that time, got back on off a handy fence and trotted the rest of the way home.
Needless to say, he'll be going for another canter hack tomorrow ?

Not much. Few days off for the Xmas break with no riding. Have this week off so getting a double lesson (2 horses) and hacking tmrw with my friend. Will potter about the yard which is my fav way to spend time, and get a new battery sorted for the lorry ? not that we’re going anywhere soon.

Well after a day of everything going wrong, my owners daughter wasn't well so we said I'd have the arena hire. Set off in good time to get there, muck out etc except my car wouldn't start. So my owner picked me up, there was a bit of snow overnight but we thought as hire was at lunch and theyd have chance to harrow we'd be OK. Especially as theyd posted the competition was going ahead as planned in their indoor...
We arrived in good time to an arena full of snow.
Now the 9 year old I was to teach has had a catalogue of things go wrong. Last weekend their car broke down on our way for hire there, previously she was asked to leave a clinic as her pony wouldn't behave...
And today, snowed off ? centre will refund hire, which isn't an issue, but we chose there as its a fab big arena, not at all spooky loads of jumps great surface etc. However, I just can't let this kid miss again. So quick call to a yard I often go to for clinics - can I pinch your arena for a bit please? Yep no bother, they booked it for an hour but said I could ride til I got kicked out by liveries if I wanted to run over a bit. It wasn't ideal, its a bit spooky and the little mare took a bit to settle but they coped so well with it and at last theyve been somewhere and actually done a bit. So taught for 45 minutes and then dived on supercob for 25 minutes who was brilliantly on form and really enjoyed a good canter round and a few fences. So all is well that ends well.
