do you use it.....
what benefits have you seen from it.....
why do you use it......
what brand/make do you use?

Been pondering supplements again...and wondering what your views are....i used to use it with previous horses years ago....but i think im being sucked into the hype of more "modern" products is the older fashioned way of cider vinegar/cod liver oil more effective. would appreciate your opinions/experiences.

apple cider vinegar is amazing stuff.

i recommend it to clients for everything, and i use it for lots of things too:

swellings, bruises (soak bandage in ACV, apply to sore bit, wrap in cling film)
worming chickens
a tsp in warm water every morning is amazing for your gut - mix with honey too
anti laminitis
joint problems
speeds up metabolism (meant to be good for weight loss)
um... there are lots more too... will have a think...

eta: apparently good for headlice, but never tried...

oh, and diabetes, blood pressure

ps did you only mean for horses...? i've just gone off on a human tangent...

I was thinking along the horse line.......but........how interesting about being good for human guts....do you mean on a sort of IBS level? will be intrigued to hear if it can help from that point of view!!!

Im using NAF supaflex at the mo.....personally i hate the smell of the powder....(not a reason to change) as i think my mare gets some benefit from it but i am wondering how much of this is psychological and i think this just because i am feeding it to her!

when i had my previous horses about 8 -10 yrs ago.....there wasnt the mass of supplements lining each shops shelf. There were some....but everyone i knew used cider vinegar and cod liver oil and my horses always seemed great on it...but after getting back into horses now i am settled down again....it seems that its supaflex this, cortaflex that, etc etc and i seem to be spendin hours trying to work out which is best....when actually is the old method the best??

Used to feed it in a combo with RhusTox and Cod Liver oil - to my 28yr old hand me down Jumping pony.

She kept hunting till her retirement at 32 - Arthritus and slightly dogey ligaments and all!

Bless her socks!

Cider Vinegar was good for her I recon!
Used to buy it in Sainsburys I think!!!

I have always used it and never felt the need to change, as it works for me
I use a cider vineger for my 2 old mares as they both have a touch of arthritis and click when it starts to get cold, dont seem to do it wit the cider vinegar.

ahh good.....seems it is still used then. Im going to put her on it for a while and see what happens when i quit the supaflex and increase the cider vinegar.
i used to use several "branded ones" in the past.....but im guessing apple cider vinegar is apple cider vinegar whether its tescos, mole valley own or NAF!

Ive used it for years i put it in their waters, its great for their joints its also flushes their kidneys and gives them a nice shiney coat all year round :)

I put it in with my horses feed..smells great with the garlic too!! I use the one from asda tho...can anyone tell me if its the same as the NAF one??????????

Mole valley sell 5 litres for £11.95 (no vat)
Feeding it at the horse dose of 150 ml per day means 5 litres would last 33.3 days. So works out to 0.36 per day feedin the NAF cider vinegar.

Yes to the cider vinegar but no to Cod liver oil.It is far too rich in vitamin D and can cause some serious health problems. It should only be given under veterinary advice.

Fantastic stuff, also so is lemon juice, mix them together using garlic to make it taste better and you horse will have new lease of life.

yep, a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of ACV in, every morning... gross but good. add honey if you can' stomach it... :)

i add it to warm water for washing down after being worked, also use it before shows to bring up a shine and get rid of the dirt, if i bath will use it in the final rinse, great for keeping flys off too
also use neat for fly bites, gets the swelling down really quick
i have fed it in the past to a mare that had navicular not sure it worked or not but i felt better
