Class times A moan!

I got my times yesterday afternoon for the two classes I am doing at a big venue. I have four and a half hours between classes as I am at the beginning of the first class and last to go in the second. Everyone else doing both these tests are in the last section of the first class so have a wait of about one and half to just over two hours. I immediately emailed and very politely asked if I could have my time for the first class changed also pointed out that one person was entered twice, once as a junior and once as a senior on the same horse, so I assumed this was a mistke. Apparently not according to the reply and my times are to remain the same. I am feeling very annoyed!!!!! Surely you can't be a junior and a senior and ride the same horse in the class???
 
Perhaps they have their birthday part way through?! Haha.

I get that it must be a nightmare doing times and juggling what everyone wants but sometimes it does seem a bit random. Have just done my entries for 2 classes and asked for late times and to factor in that I’m doing two, but let’s see! Also not helped as you don’t know when your class will be on. I’m in classes 3 and 9 but presuming they will run more than one arena so they could even start at the same time!

I learnt my lesson as last time I entered for something like class 8 and asked for an early time as I thought they would run them one after another, then got 9am time so had to get up at 5am! And they wouldn’t change it.
 
they have offered me a refund on one of the classes if I withdraw or will slot me into a different place if they have a withdrawal. TBH I don't feel inclined to travel for an hour to do one class and then wait for three hours to see if they have a withdrawal nearer the start of the second class. I might just have a lie in as I'd have to leave at 07.30 to get there in time for my first class. I do sympathise with the organisers but!
 
I love just going and doing one test these days! all this hanging around seems like a distant memory as one test is quite enough for Kira now ;)
how annoying though, I find sometimes venues give you rubbish times by accident and then are quite accommodating when you point out what they've done but sounds like you have the like it or lump it options :/
 
Def not, not great to have such a long wait for you or your horse really, especially imo for dressage! I’ll get up early for horse stuff (nothing else!) but I still draw the line at stupidly early o’clock.
 
I think classes will be big this weekend as a lot of people will be having their final run through before the Regionals. A very big venue near me has a show this weekend and I have to say that (with the new management!) they have been very accommodating in putting the times as close as possible for the two horses that are going in the same lorry but competing in different classes.

To be fair I think your venue has gone about as far as they can in response to your trying to get your tests closer together although I cannot understand how some-one can ride the same test as both a junior and then as a senior?

I would be tempted to go and do your first class as the warm up should be quieter than it will be later in the say, see how it goes and then decide whether or not to withdraw. If I am withdrawing from a test I always try to let the organisers know as soon as possible so they may have already had a withdrawal slot that you can take.
 
I would withdraw from the second class. One hour to travel for one class is fine for me. If it were 3 hours of travel then maybe not so much!

I would not wait 4 1/2 hours between classes. I have withdrawn from the XC at a BE event for the same thing, makes the day not fun.
 
Very annoying. I was pleased to have to withdraw weekend before last (due to lorry tyre issue) as had over 5 hours between two classes and venue was an hour away. Would have been out from 6.30am to 4pm for 10 minutes competing.

I always ask for times as close together as possible which sometimes backfires if not many entries.
 
Hi I have withdrawn from the second class. I am still completely mystified as to how the same person can ride the same horse as a junior and a senior. Doing it in both of the classes that I was doing!

Summerhouse. 28 entries in the first class, of whom 9 are competing in the next class which is 18 strong I am the only one starting in the first block me 09.25 and 14.02 the next one is 10.46 and 12.17. I have been exceptionally polite as I don't want to put the entries sec's back up as no doubt I will be competing there again but tbh she could me more helpful. Now told if I want to have a refund on one class I have to withdraw now, which I hve done. Grrrr
 
It's annoying but that gap wouldn't really bother me to be honest - but thats coming from an eventing background where you just accept you could have a 9am dressage and a 3pm SJ :p

But generally my horse is very happy to be stood on the box, I would just walk her for a bit between the two. Would much rather have a big gap than a tiny one.

Perhaps next time state on your entry you would prefer end of one class and begining of another? I've done this previously if i've had to get back from something and most sec's have been accomodating
 
TBH my moan was that everyone else doing the same two classes had a max of 2 hours between each class and I had 4 and a half hours. Did lots of eventing with my daughter, always plenty of places you could get the horse off to graze, walk about etc, it's not the same at a dressage venue, today it was wet and cold and windy. I've made friends with the entry sec today and now know what I need to put on my entry. Rose is fine to be stood on the box with her head in a hay net but for 4 hours + on a cold day is not OK with me. I want her to enjoy being out not fed up and I was absolutey frozen through just waiting for our class to end, the joys of competing in January!
 
Where I am we always do our dressage tests one after the other. Literally you leave one arena and walk into the adjacent one. Honestly, I love it. You're always done and dusted with dressage really quickly and the horse doesn't get time to switch off and no need to faff around with multiple warmups!

We have a few places doing “Express Dressage” which is great. So if you enter back to back classes you go in paired off with someone. They do first test, then you then repeat for the second and you’re done! They then post out rosettes and sheets.
