Cleveland Bays

:DHi Shell I know you were not advertising but if you would be so kind as to crate up Indepentant Miss and send her to me I would be happy to take her off your hands and save you the expense of looking after her.

PS Dont forget to put a biscuit of hay and bucket of water in the crate.:D:D:D:D:D:D

Go to p34 of todays Horse&Hound. The horse is only 9 and his rider is only 17. They moved up to Prix St.Georges in the spring this year and already have won and been highly placed.
For more details of his career go to the Southern Cleveland Bay Club website.

LOL Flibble!!! lol.....

Shes the KEEPER of our foals from last year :) Shes not getting sold for any amount of money in the world!! (well, ok, if someone offered us enough to have hubby be able to buy the plane he wants, then she would get a sold sign slapped on her butt! lol).....

OOh Noooo you get me wrong you were supposed to giver her to me. Its very sad but having owned one CBxTB there is a very warm sticky place in my heart for a good looking bay.

God I sound pathetic!!

Must dash we have a new posh TV and OH is putting it together.

Now there IS a thought we have a 6 year old Panasonic TV with Stand Non HD which is completely unblemished we could swap it for your little angel !!!!

Yes we CB lovers know. Spring Pascall's dam Springtime Girl is out of Knaresborough Springtime - if you look at my photos the mare I am riding (and the very first pic is of her filly) is also a grandaughter of Kn. Springtime. It is interesting because KS only every had two foals both fillies.

This is poor skinny Roxy when we first had her

I am afraid this thread is making me really quite broody for a CB broodie:) I always wondered why it was that although I breed Irish horses now, they are all cleveland-coloured bay!!!!!!

I am so enjoying all the pictures and THE EARS you cannot go wrong with a CB's ears they are HUGE. Beautful beautiful creatures, always had a soft spot.

Is it true that any white markings are banned from the main stud book?

PS:Any spare crates containing Clevelands (with hay and water) not wanted, please ship to this side of the little pond.

In certain parts of Ireland the Cleveland Bay was introduced to improve the Irish Draught horse as indeed was the lovely Clydesdale (useless but fun fact):)

They are a joy to own, yes they can be stubborn but only when they dont know whats being asked of them, theyre so friendly and eager to please. Just very very big and hurt when they kick you in the face like i encountered!

I am pining again if I even thought I could get the right stable and field nearby I would sneak out and kidnap a few for me but I guess Australia isnt ona overnighter oh rolll back the clock.

Siobhans Roxy looks lovely too. Must go sleeping tablet is just kicking innnnnnnnnn.

Also used to improve the Holstein. I wrote an article on the CB for HorseBreedersmagazine - on line. The research surprised even me. Did you know that a CB was placed in the first three of the Grand National three times?

He would get a statue and endless re-runs on BBC today wouldn't he?

Who was that then?9National). Must admit to not knowing that. Following on from the other replies, we do need to get CB's out there and doing stuff rather than just being a "rare breed" which you just breed for no other purpose than to keep the breed going. We have found a lot more interest in part breds and have covered several non CB mares this year, so perhaps the message is getting across.

If this was the Continent we would be told to breed and compete these animals and no other. They are not just 'national treasures' but working, functioning 'sporthorses' (hate using that word) in their own right.
Stop buying abroad, buy British you don't need a vastly overpriced warmblood to float down the centre line and do twiddly pirouettes on, or jump big fences for that matter.
Crossed with the TB the CB is a fabulous athlete.
Don't own one by the way but will defend them to the death.

YAY someone spouting sense!!! The Hannovarian also has CB lines going back through the generations. The CB is a reliable classic horse for the modern rider.

Hurrah for Cleveland Bays!

Irish Life - Your assuming the CB hasnt eaten all the Hay 1st!!! :p
I love the pictures of The beach - I would love to get my girl close sometime soon

Make sure everyone looks out for all the CB's at Thame show tomorrow - 12pm Ring 4!!!

Peter Semple 1841, 42 and 45. In 1845 he was second having parted company with his jockey during the race. He was remounted and finished second. The winner was ridden by the greatest steeple chase jockey of the day, whereas Peter was ridden by his owner an amateur. It is believed that he not had this mishap he would have won the race.

he is 'missmarked' as he has a large white star and a naughtly white smudge on his nose - a family trait as SSM will know...

this is his half sister Moo who I also owned

hehe! no worries! There are a fe of us these days aren't there!

Should we start an 'exclusive clique available to only 70 new members each year. That being the number of live births in the world" PS references required for new owners. (sorry can't work out the smilies)

My Jesse is a seven year old part-bred. 3/4 CB, 1/8 TB and 1/8 Percheron.

1-16-10035.jpg

I got him because, while quite green, he was safe, sound and strong enough for me. Didn't find out he was part CB until after I bought him and got the paperwork.

Oh do please join in - you look fabulous on your grey horse. There is a fantastic show cob in the UK called Natterjack Toad he is a TB/CB. When we moved to France one of the transporters was a 'jouster' he fell in love with one of my mares 'my sort of horse'.

Where are you? I have had a lovely invitation to go to Virginia next year to the Upperville Horse Show which has the biggest CB class. My stallion Afondale Highlander is by Tregoyd Journeyman now at Bay Haven Farm a Heritage Farm. He was also a model for Breyer.

My mare Stoneridge Merindah Jundah has a full brother(stallion) in the USA Stoneridge Bendigara. I have emailed them but never made contact. Do you know where he is?

I lovvvvvvvvvvvve My girl!!! (she has a growing fan club everywhere she goes!!!)

Just wanted to show you my homebred pure 2yrold. I'm delighted with her. I'm not a showing person so travelling 3 hours to a show was quite an ordeal for me. We took semi-retired Ruben for company (3/4 CB) and they behaved impeccably.

She was second in CB youngstock. There were only three in it but the others were 3yrolds.
It seemed like a good idea at the time but I've entered her Mum and half brother at Equifest. He will be 4 months then and very strong. As I said I don't do showing - so any advice would be welcome.
