You know I'm not usually a cynical soul....but if the OP has ridden GP on a Welsh D, then I've sh***ed Johnny Depp.
And I'm sure I would have remembered...

I agree about people wearing jodhs at horsey events!

Oh NOOOOO!!!! That's ME! How embarrassing!!

Can I use the excuse that if I'm not actually competing I usually exercise the horses before going and then get a lift from the yard??
frown.gif

Does it make things any better if the jods and boots have clearly been ridden in recently?

Its like they feel the need to prove to EVERYONE that yes, they can ride!

Oh, well, everyone knows I can ride

It's a very small equestrian community round here.

I just laugh when I see people wearing those jackets etc (especially the woman sitting in front of us at Blenheim) but it doesn't annoy me as such. It is not different really to the thousands of people you see in Oxford / Cambridge / Harvard university sweatshirts etc

my goat has custom-made rugs and saddle, thank you very much. i could tell you what size, but then i'd have to kill you.

he refuses to wear pony or foal rugs, as they are beneath his dignity. he likes diamantes stuck to his horns (ha, eat your heart out unicorns, my goat has TWO spangly horns) and glittery hoof varnish. my farrier had a nightmare, what with his cloven hooves and all, but miniature heart-bars in reverse seem to work nicely. have to watch he doesn't overreach and pull them off though, the poor darling.

seriously, someone does have a camel that does a bit of dressage, and i've seen a picture of a hippo doing a well impressive extended trot... mind you, that was without a rider on...

I am PMSL here! I am so jealous of your goat.

Because they havent worked there asses off and spent thousands, to be intitled to wear the GB flag or jackets.

[/ QUOTE ]

Rubbish. Who says people don't work their asses off? Maybe they just don't have the time with a full time job and a mortgage to pay? Maybe they haven't had the support from parents, maybe they can't afford it.

Tell me Katy, when you were riding for your country, who paid all the bills? Did you work full time to pay for it?

To ride for your country is a big achievement, its great, but there's a lot more than just talent and hard work involved.

Like I said, all the grassroots riders are involved in making the top levels work, thats where the money comes from. Most people know they'll never be lucky enough to ride for their country - but if they want to wear a GB jacket, then why shouldn't they? Its not like it says they do compete for England, just that they support it - like football shirts.

Has anyone noticed the glaringly obvious error in this post?

How can you take a horse further than Grand Prix level? That's it

umm, i'm not sure. i think it's airs above the ground thrown in whenever you choose, and you get an extra big winner's purse at the end!
must've been what Sandman was doing when he went up in the air in the canter pirouette at the Nationals!

On serious note I know of one pony that is at/around inter/GP level but not competing at that level, amazing little thing to watch as is its' little rider. tis a grey connie ridden by the talented Pippa Hutton.

It is my opinion Spiral, and it winds ME up!
Im not sat here saying they arent doing all they can and loving every minute of it, but it is bloody annoying to hear someone say "oo look shes represented GB" when you know all they bloody do is Hack!
(dont jump on my, im not slagging off happy hackers)

Work full time to pay for it? Was that whilst i was at School doing my GCSE's?
You think im not aware there isnt more than talent and hard work involved?
Its Money, and that what at the end of the day it comes down to!

You look at a football strip, players on the england squad would not wear that off the pitch! But riders do, and that is what it comes down to!

I have a Toggi polo shirt with Great Britain on the back - TBH Katy the *flag* is in the shape of a horses head, so doesn't look official. I bought it because funds from the sale go into the British Eventing Squad
