I have a coloured sports horse, his legs are all white, and a bit hairy, not too bad. Just getting ready for the showing season and wondered what clippers/trimmers were best for his legs??? And also what is the best way to clip them?

Hi where are you based ?

I clip my show horses with my normal clippers ( I have livery man mustang ) go down the back of the leg from top to bottom and then tidy te coronet band by going from floor up x

Sorry for the hi-jack, but would that work for a hogged cob in the summer so it blends in with his summer coat?

I either use human hair clippers with a guide on or run a comb up the hair and trim with scissors or clippers, I fine this works well on our lot who are shire x's with a bit of feather

I clipped my friends show jumper a little while ago and took the legs off .. I have lister stars and I went from the bottom of the leg up but I found round the cornet band hard to get my clippers round it! They did do it but so fidly lol

Depending on how hairy the legs are, I would use the clippers in the direction of thr hair - so knee to floor. I do this on my ginger girly as she is quite a different colour when you clip, and floor to knee takes thr hair too short and you can see exactly where the clippers have been

However I'm not showing - if youre that worried then it's back to scissors and comb I'm afraid. A long job maybe but worth it if you want it done right :)

You normally ue the same clippers for the legs that you use on the rest of the body. Don't bother trying to use human hair clippers, they're a waste of time, they don't have a powerful enough motor to cope with a horse's coat even if it's just the legs.

I clip out my coloureds legs over the summer for eventing - you can hardly tell the line where I stop clipping as he is a very dark brown! He looks a little pink for the first few days (watch out for sunburn) and then looks great!!

I did my hairy cobs legs with liveryman trimmers - they went through her feathers with no problems at all! It wasn't the neatest job as it's the first time I've ever clipped hairy legs - but they look fine now after a week or two of growth :)

We used trimmers with a guide on for this horse, I don't think it looks to obvious -
