Has anyone used these - Liveryman Slick Cordless Rechargable Trimmer (charlies.co.uk) ?

My pair of carthorses need their legs clipped almost weekly, I have A1's on my Heiniger Xplorer which take the hair down well but I need to get a tighter clip. The Xplorers are also too bulky for a tidy tight clip in pasterns. The vet clipped a couple of days ago with Andis clippers but I fell over when I saw the price of those !

Any recommendations for sharp trimmers capable of tackling carthorse legs ? Thank you.

Yes I have them. They are light, batteries last for ages and they make a nice job of it, easy to get in round fetlocks and chestnut etc, and will clip almost down to skin with no guards on. I think they would struggle with full on carthorse hair though. I use mine every couple of weeks to keep on top of it and its fine.

When I left them 12 weeks they still worked, it was just a bit slower getting through fluff and the associated dirt and grime that was left. I will admit to not washing the legs beforehand though, and they still did a good job. I just dont think I would want to use them for that sort of job every time.

I use Lister liberty with the Covercote blades to take off the worst of the hair and blend in at the hock / knee.
Then Lister Adagios with a blade comb @3mm (white legs and pink skin so I don't want too close a finish in case of flies and sunburn!) to do under the heels and coronet bands - however they'd not cope with the thicker hair without taking ages hence using the Liberty for the worst of the hair.

Thanks, the Xplorers will take the bulk off and I try not to let it grow more than a couple of inches.

If you're willing to go up a bit in price, the Liveryman Harmony Plus look and feel like trimmers, but have a lot more power behind them. My trimmers used to struggle a bit with Blue's feather, but the Harmony whizzes through. They have an option for narrow blades, which makes them even more trimmer-like.

I have the liveryman classics and agree with dexters summary.
I think if you're hacking the worst off with big clippers they'd be fine.

Mine double up to do lockdown husband haircuts at the moment when not tidying the horses ?

I used the Harmony Plus for a short while, but found that the A5 blades couldn’t cope with the thick coat my ponies grew. It was also impossible to get the A5-type blades sharpened.

I used cordless Heiniger Xplorers, for everywhere, including around the fetlocks and round teats/sheath.

I've got these, and they are perfect for carthorse legs.
I also clipped a whole Shitland with them last week, and they went through his ridiculously thick coat, including his fluffy drawers, without faltering

I bought Liberty Harmony plus for the cob legs. They are doing really well. Look like trimmers with more punch. I bought new blades that are coarser as that leaves a better finish for legs. 6 months of constant use, I had no problems getting the finer blades sharpened, in case I ever use them for his body/face.
