How often or after how many horses should you sharpen your clipper blades?? I clipped Flint in the summer and they were re sharpened before then, and now Im ready to clip again this weekend but dont want them to be blunt, will they be ok??

How long your blades will last between being sharpened will vary according to a number of things, but if you've only used them once then you should be fine.

I find that clipping a dirty horse blunts blades more quickly, so always make sure that the horse has been bathed really well the day before I want to clip (weather permitting!) I usually get 4 full clips out of them before sending a set of blades off - but you'll feel if if the blades are starting to get blunt as you go along. Have you got a spare set?

depends if horsey is dirty or not.clean horse may get 4 or 5 clips.dirty, greasy only one.
the horse grease and clipper oil make a paste when mushed together and rub the blades and blunt `em.

they have been used about 5 times in total and I have had them for about 4 years but have had them sharpened 3 times. Flint isnt too grimey and is quite clean as perm rugged up. I dont have a spare set but someone on the yard might do if i get half way through!

I usually use my blades twice/3 times before sharpening, depending on what size horses and type of clip, but I know of people who don't do this as often.
If your blades aren't sharp enough you'll see lines left in the coat from the teeth of the blades. Can also hurt the horse if the blades drag through their coat.
Happy clipping... 1 of my favourite jobs!

Sure your blades will be fine then. If your horse is rugged that will make it easier, but I'd still wash him (or her) if it's not too cold. I've just clipped mine for the second time this season and thought I had her squeaky clean, but still found that her quarters were a bit greasy

you can buy special pre-clip wash stuff but i have never tried it.
good old washing up liquid is just as good imo.
