C'mon, Fess Up: how many of you have..........?

I shall be watching this with bated breath as 9. is now in fashion with various high level eventers, I expect to see the "fashion" catching on shortly :)

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - Nope Don't own any!

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - Do people seriously still wear all of that to lead horses in? The only time I wear gloves to put a horse out is when we have had one on box rest and muggins here is the one that gets the honours! The boys are useless when it comes to that sort of stuff!

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - Yup - ish, I will give them a flick over to remove loose mud over shoulders neck and bum but that's as far as it gets!

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - I just untack them in the field and leave them to it.

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - Yup

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - Yup

7. Not poo-picked - at all - Yup

8. Tied up with the reins - NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I also get off and leave my horse standing about whilst I do stuff.

I ride without a hat quite a bit too ...

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals

Um, nearly always unless the stallion

Funny thread though, I shall add:
10) Ridden straight off the field
11) Ridden on the road bareback

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - never

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - well, always in boots at least.

K, so was just discussing Guilty Secrets with a friend.

SO..... how many of you have committed the following Sins:-

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - No

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat - Regularly

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - Sometimes

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - Never if really sweaty, sometimes if hardly sweaty at all

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - Never

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - All the time

7. Not poo-picked - I don't poo pick at all at my current yard as we have a massive field which is on a farm and is shared with cows

8. Tied up with the reins - Never and never would do either!

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins - sometimes

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer - never but I did once ride with bare feet and stirrups as a teenager - dangerous I know!

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals-yes

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!)-yes

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom-yes

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc-yes

5. Ridden without picking out feet first-yes

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain-yes

Mmmmmm guilty of a few!

Some bit not all .....

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals.
No. I like my toes and want to keep them.

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!). Yes.

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom. Yes.

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc
No. If they need a wash down they get one .

5. Ridden without picking out feet first. No.

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain . Yes.

7. Not poo-picked - at all No.

8. Tied up with the reins No.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins. Don't have a Pelham.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!). No.

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals- Yep but I can't even remember when I did it. I do value my toes :p

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) What..? I never wear hat or gloves to lead my horses in :o are we meant to?

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom- Yep if horse is already fairly clean,

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc- No, always wash down after hard work

5. Ridden without picking out feet first- Yes, I do this too often.

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain- I try to go a show at least once a fortnight so It gives me an excuse to clean my tack :p otherwise it doesn't get done!

7. Not poo-picked - at all. Yes, we have a lot of land where my horses are kept and it would be impossible to poo pick tbh

8. Tied up with the reins- Sort of hung them around the ring while I run off and get a lead rope and headcollar.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins. Yes :o I'd never use the snaffle rein when hunting or jumping my horse so can't see much point in having it !

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!)- No, I have to wear boots and chaps or else my legs turn red raw

Guilty of most of those I think! and probably a lot more similar things

I have done 1 to 7 but not the others.

Also - found myself sitting under my horse's tummy to clean it properly rather than crouching agilely by the side.
- left my horse standing in the arena while I fiddle with poles

- squeezed round my horse when I load him (for some reason he only loads if I lead from the left which means I have to squeeze past him to get out of the lorry!)

- when untacking by the lorry at an event, take his whole bridle off before putting on the headcollar

- when untacking by the lorry at an event, NOT taken the bridle fully off before putting on the headcollar therefore resulting in loose horse trashing own bridle though luckily uninjured

Haven't done any of the above! Number 9 as never ridden in Pelham and always do number 2 simply because I have a youngster who can be unpredictable!

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - yes, I've done them in flip flops BUT my horses live out so I literally just give them their feed in the field (I would never handle/lead them in flip flops).

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - Umm I wear gloves pretty much all the time just for comfort but I never wear my hat unless riding and at home I ride in my yard boots so they're always on.

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - Lots of times. Although out of 4 of my horses, 3 are grey (white) so I do tend to groom their whole body daily just to try and keep stains at bay. The dun only gets minimal brushing ;)

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - I never wash mine down unless they've sweated. After riding, they're let free in the field again.

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - Yeah, but only if they're barefoot, I would always tend to pick out shod feet.

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - Ha ha, yep. I very rarely clean tack.

7. Not poo-picked - at all - I do poo pick but not enough. Its been nagging in my conscience for weeks!

8. Tied up with the reins - Never, had two get their reins caught on something on the trailer at shows and I can see how close they were to serious injury.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins - Yep I have done, dont see the problem if it works for the horse.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!) - Never. Worst Ive ridden in was trainers but I prefer boots.

OK, so was just discussing Guilty Secrets with a friend.

SO..... how many of you have committed the following Sins:-

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals I haven't actually, too scared too!

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) Every day! I don't wear gloves unless I am competing and have to, and I rarely lead in a hard hat... And mostly have wellies on in the field!

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom a lot! I rarely do a full groom as my lad lives out, and I hate taking the oil out of his coat. I always brush off saddle area, bridle area and legs as I boot up, but I don't tend to do a full groom unless it's a special occasion

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc Every day again! Unless he is very sweaty, I just brush off the worst and turn him out. His rug is breathable!!!

5. Ridden without picking out feet first i don't pick out feet. Some people will be shocked! We work on hard ground daily, so mud gets flicked out very quickly.

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain This one I feel ad about! I keep meaning to but don't clean my tack very often at all... My bit is the worst though.

7. Not poo-picked - at all. until we moved into the new small field, we never poo picked, as the field was huge, and got regularly harrowed, and rolled and sprayed by the farmer. Now we pop pick as the field is smaller and the tractor can't maneuver as easily.

8. Tied up with the reins Nope.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins Nope.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!) Nope.

Mea culpa, I confess, for these and my other sins of commission or ommission. I confess my sins and admit my failings; I am a lazy slob and will try to earnestly better myself:)

Anyone else wish to confess?? Confessional is now free................:):):)

My worst confession is to, very ocassionally, have not bothered mucking out. Before you curse me, my horse lives out, he just comes in literally to be ridden and fed. But he LOVES to poo and wee in his stable, and saves it up for coming in. There has been the odd day when I've been busy and he's pooed and peed everywhere and I've gone, f it, I need to go, I will muck tomorrow...

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - Yep... In summer I regularly do the horses barefoot.

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - Yep... Again, done regularly barefoot

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - Yep, especially if rugged up and not dirty.

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - No, even though the little sods roll and get filthy after they are washed down.

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - Yep, but I always pick them out after.

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - Yes, in winter if the forecast is for a week of rain then I will clean it at the end of the week.

7. Not poo-picked - at all...... Yep.

8. Tied up with the reins - Never

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins - Yes, I jump my pony a pelham with roundings. Too hard on cross country with double reins.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!) - I don't wear sandals but I do take my horses down the beach in summer for a gallop bare foot.

Wow - I am like the worst owner ever... haha :)

All of them except tying up with reins. I never pick out feet. The only time my horses feet get picked out is when the farrier comes and even then it's him doing it! All feet still attached after ten years of horse ownership!

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals.

Yep. One time only- bedding in between my toes at the pub certainly put a stop to that!

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!)

Most days- I'm usually leading him in in my work stuff!

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom.

Haha, do this all the time- he gets a good groom after riding though, red it was better to do it after :)

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc.

A couple of times- if I get back later than expected!

5. Ridden without picking out feet first.

Once- an felt like a meanie once I'd realised!

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain.

Guilty.

7. Not poo-picked - at all.

Guilty- our summer field is humongous- it gets picked once a year!

8. Tied up with the reins.

Never- head collar can easily go on over.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins.

Not yet- don't plan to though.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer.

Nope, my boy has so little spacial awareness I'd end up with broken feet trying to mount!

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - never

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - yeah everyday, dont even own a pair of jod boots any more!

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - nope, i always brush her tail and mane regardless of if im just 'flicking off' or givign a full groom!

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - probably at somepoint when im running late, but dont tend to, always wash off if sweaty or give aquick brush after if not.

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - probably at some point although even when i do theres never anything in there as field is so far away its usually all been bashed out by the time we get back to the yard

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - Yep! althgouh atm i clean my bridle everyday because its new and lovely!

7. Not poo-picked - at all - only on yards where we didnt have to poo pick/on part livery

8. Tied up with the reins - no, but she is quite often left 'free' with reins twisted/behind stirrups if im doing poles/gates ect.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins - yes, not on my horse thgouh, as a kid riding other peoples ponies who had them.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!) - nope.

and as some one added it to the list earlier, yes i ride my orse to the field in a headcoller nearly evey day as the field is so far away! and if its quiet we even canter! :O the sin!

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals

Fed them in flip flops yes lol

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!)

Oh, Reguarly. Never wear hat or gloves and most of the time just in muck boots.

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom.

.. Yes, Only when im in a real rush and horse is basically clean otherwise.

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc.

Reguarly - Field has no water access to it means having to save water we bring from putting in buckets that we may need. :)

5. Ridden without picking out feet first/

Guilty! :/

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain

Hasn't rained for a while so.. no?

7. Not poo-picked - at all

Yes some days ..

8. Tied up with the reins

Nope both mine are expected to stand just free and no tieing up needed where they are placed.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins

Nope at the moment i'm only using double reins but will have to have a go xc in two reins.

10. Ridden in sandals in the summer.
On my VERY well behaved 27yro I have been known to take riding boots off and just ride in socks but i don't really like feeling so usually put boots back on after 5mins of cooling down.

And to whoever said riding in headcollars or somethin - Yes reg especially if it's muddy and im in riding boots then I hitch a ride. ;)

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals

even worse i wash them off with no shoes on in the summer!

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!)

every single day.....

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom

now this one-never!!!

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc

never

5. Ridden without picking out feet first

all the time but they are BF so tend to ping everything out themselves, if its been wet i do pick them out as the damp soil can pick up pebbles. In warmer weather though they are always empty!

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, nope, 3 times a week usually.

7. Not poo-picked - at all

every single day!

8. Tied up with the reins

yikes, never.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins

Bruce has roundings, far easier for his sharer when all they do is hack :)

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!)

nope never but have sat on bareback with no shoes at all!

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - not since this incident, and that was with wellies on!!
IMG316_zpsd5ee5b8d.jpg

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - all the time!

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - it's virtually obligatory with a cob that lives out

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - not in summer

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - nope, not unless I've had a mental aberration ;)

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - yep

7. Not poo-picked - at all - eek, yep

8. Tied up with the reins - never

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins - I'm going to in the near future (ducks for cover)

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!) - never

OK, so was just discussing Guilty Secrets with a friend.

SO..... how many of you have committed the following Sins:-

1. Done the horses in open-toed sandals - NOPE

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!) - oh yes all the time

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom - often in the winter

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc - often no harm done IMO

5. Ridden without picking out feet first - yes lots of times ((someone very high up in the BHS world once said if you're riding on the roads that will knock the mud out)) not that that makes it right

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain - often

7. Not poo-picked - at all - only when horse living in a HUGE field

8. Tied up with the reins - not with the reins but very occasionally to the bit.

9. Used roundings for a pelham instead of two separate reins - no because I find two reins easy but i would if I wanted to.

9. Ridden in sandals in the summer (OK I DO have safety stirrups with cages!!) - NO never

2. Led in without joddie boots, gloves, hat (BHS yard requirements!!)

3. Just cleaned off the saddle space before riding out and not done a proper groom

4. Just chucked them out in the field afterwards to get on with rolling etc without a proper wash-down etc

5. Ridden without picking out feet first

6. Not cleaned tack since the last time you rode in the rain

And many more, haha :P

As a kid, I rode from the field to the dam bareback, barefoot, in swimming shorts and bikini top, without a hat and in only a halter. Swam in the dam for a while and put back into field.

I'd spend all summer on the farm in South Africa and it was often over 40 degrees celcius.

I am still guilty of the bareback/halter infringement.

I've also checked horses in strappy heels and evening dress a few times, New Year's Eve particularly (fireworks).

I'm a regular breaker of the leading without a hat rule. I find if I arrive kitted out, they make a run for it.
