Our young cocker Dora, is 11 month old and is slowly chewing her way through the house.!
I've been to dog training, she was ace at it, behaved like an angel, but she chews for England...she has a denta stick a day, so does our 6 yr old dog, who is so well behaved, has bones from butcher once a week, has tons of toys, most with holes in ! But she still chews when left alone with my older dog... We have had to confine her to her cage when I go shopping ( 2 hours max) but this is not a punishment as she sleeps in there during the day without the door being shut..she likes her cage.
She has chewed the corner of kitchen wall, chewed dustpan and brush, shredded a roll of bin bags, and I have to say they were all out of her reach, so I thought..
She chewed my new glasses , took them from my bag! Including the case.
And I've lost count of number of things she has stolen and took away to chew up..
We have had two vet visits for sickness , caused by eating forbidden stuff. I spray stuff with no chew stuff..,
Makes no difference. She is left alone with older dog for 4 hours a morning twice a week while I work, has 3 walks a day, one of them free off lead chasing a ball
Yet she is still so distructive. She sleeps well at night tho and is tired by 7 pm.
Any other ideas of things I can do till she grows out of it , well that's what I've been told !
Help. ..."...

My younger JRT is a chewer, I make sure he is crated whenever I'm out of the house and he always has access to something to chew at all other times - usually a bone or nylabone.

Crate or kennel!
I would also say she probably needs brain work, our young lab hasn't had much fun for the last week with me working and harvest going full blast and has become a complete PITA, she doesn't chew but is like a mains attached alarm when I get home. Today I drove round the stubble chucking dummies out the window then we went and found them, it took 15 minutes and she is shattered, a lovely sight!
So, perhaps brain training like gundog stuff, even if you don't want to work her it is fun to do?

Could you incorporate some scent work training into her daily walks? Spaniels are busy little dogs who love to use their nose. Try hiding her ball (rather than throwing it) and getting her to find it. Scatter small treats in long grass and encourage her to find them. If in a safe area, hide yourself and get her to find you. You will find that these short, fun training sessions are likely to tire her much more quickly than just chasing a ball, as she is using her brain as well as her body.

The other advice I would offer is to say you have answered your own question. If she is happy and relaxed in her crate while you are out, then leave her crated with a legitimate chew toy or raw bone while you are out, so long as it is for no more than 3-4 hours.

I bought bull horns for my Rottie and EBT - I am mega impressed with them. The Rottie buries fresh bones and I have to watch the EBT as she will swallow great chunks if she can chew them up but they have made little impression on the bull horns but are still interested in them and happily chomp away for hours. They don't smell and flies don't seem to be attracted to them. Not cheap at a tenner each but worth every penny!

Sorry - had no signal until now! The bull horns are called Bull Bars and I bought them from Amazon. They also sell Antlers which have good reviews too.

Buy?

I suspect you already have dog chews. Keep the hoof trimmings next time the farrier comes. Hooves are made of the same stuff as horns.

antlers are very hard. my staffie cross was an extreme chewer (though not of stuff she wasn't supposed to) and the buffalo horn was good for her-they are rewarded with bits that come off and seemed to keep their interest. P@H stock them, as do my local ag store. They also don't seem to give them bad wind like hoof trimmings can and are somewhat more substantial.
