Coloured stocks would you or not?

I rather fancy one, but I never see anyone else in coloured stocks out competing and I'm really not sure what to go for if I do. I've had a look at red fox on facebook and the stock market and there is a lot of choice out there.
I'd want a pre-tied if I'm competing I find they just look a bit neater than my idea of a correctly tied one
Would you? Wouldn't you? Any ideas if you would?
I know they're legal, I'm just not committed to wanting one yet
 
I think it depends on what you're wearing it with and what you're competing in?

I've seen a fair few that have looked lovely but I don't think I'd be brave enough personally.
 
I have a sort of gold paisley one that I sometimes wear with beige breeches and navy jacket. I've worn it with Darcy cos I feel like a bit weird in whites doing unaff shows. Don't know why! always just wore navy with my tweed.
 
I have a black, a blue and a tweed jacket. My blue has a subtle check to it and I sometimes wear that with cream breeches which is what makes me think a coloured stock might look smart - bit like MP that it's a little less formal for unaffiliated stuff I guess.
It's for dressage and jumping, I dont show if i can avoid it (inhand mileage for babies only).
I just kind of fancy something different I guess

if you fancy it then I say go for it. a very coloured stock might not be strictly correct with plain jacket but frankly no one is going to say anything (see one or 2 at most of the little shows I've done over the last year anyway) and if you like it, that's all that matters. if you had something more subtle than bright or dark colours then it's within the range of "normal" anyway imo.

Omg, yes I could do quest over winter...
Although the goal is elementary by xmas so maybe not so much. The third is absolutely as loud as I would think of going and I'd want to see it in the flesh really. I think the second is my fave at the moment, I like the taupe but it might be a bit dark
 
I sometimes do with my tweed jacket for UA stuff. Depends on the shirt, I'll put a tie on with a collared shirt but my summer shirts are stock shirts. Jumping I'll often just have the stock collar but for dressage feel I should wear something and white/cream definitely isn't right with tweed. Mine is gold with tiny navy spots and tweed is blue/grey.

(complete with stock pin). ?
I'm only toying with it since I started wearing my blue jacket with cream rather than white breeches and I feel like cream looks wrong with white

I used to always wear cream breeches and had an off white stock. bought a white one when I got white breeches (felt funny in anything else in advanced classes!) I hate my white one though, I'll be looking for something else when we start competing again. but yeah I agree a white stock looks funny with non-white breeches and neither looked right with the beige ones I've worn on Darcy. Ugh!

Eventing i had a self-tie silk stock but I do appreciate the convenience and easy care of a velcro-on one for dressage!
 
I wear a dark red with spots with my hacking jacket for competing most disciplines. I'm not sure I would wear any of the ones pictured tho .
 
I presume from the thread you are thinking of combining with black/navy and compete in dressage? If so then I’d avoid any brightly coloured.

I never competed in white, always beige/cream breeches - generally tones better with a navy jacket. You can get some lovely silk with patterns/prints in off white/cream/gold which is what I opted for.
 
Yeah, dressage and the odd one day. I definitely would not have anything loud.

I got mine from Buckover Equi Bibs.
They come with, as the name suggests, a bib. I get quite hot riding and it meant I could just slip my jacket on over a strappy top

I'd forgotten about them. I do have two nice waistcoats for if it's ever hot again though
Again, I feel there is a theme here with my riding wear - dont judge me please. While I do seem to have excessive jackets etc I will add that I'm still competing in the same boots, and whites I bought 20 years ago from the original derby house! My black jacket was bought at the same time, and my tweed is maybe only 3 years newer!
 
My tweed is vintage, I got in 1988, and it was second hand then.....

Still fits me too :) I love it.

Seriously though, I think a cream silk stock is lovely with a navy jacket and cream breeches.

Life is too short - ride the horse, buy the stock, eat the cake!! :p

As long as its in the regulations for any classes you are doing -why not! Otherwise just wear it hacking around and be very fancy!!! ;):D
 
Personally I loathe those loud, shiny, synthetic stocks with embellishments secured with a huge blingy brooch but I would wear that cream/gold paisley in Roxylola’s post with a plain gold pin. So much kinder to the complexion than white and subtle enough not to be vulgar. In truth, you should be free to wear whatever you want if it is within the regs and express your individuality.
