Commenting on other people's horses

Thanks for everyone's comments. I agree that if it is a welfare concern then things need to be said. At my yard the YO is probably the most experienced or the onsite instructor but I can see how on other yards it is not the case.

It has been good to see that people would act if there was a danger aspect but otherwise only comment constructively or when asked. Totally agree Yultide_Gal that some comments, even if not asked for, can be helpful if done in the right way. I don't mind being offered advice, I welcome it, but I hate hearing people put others down or when it is done in a twisted way isn't nice or helpful.

I've had to deal with some really odd comments from a select few on livery yards I've been to. My horse is not abused; if I want someone's opinion I will ask for it.
I wish I had enough money to keep my horses at home!

Recently heard a great piece of advice- whats the opposite of right?

Most people would automatically say 'Wrong' but actually, the opposite of right is Left....or to put it another way, different!

Yard owner recently tried to enforce her way of keeping horses on us (out 24/7, au natural) as her opinion was that it was the best thing for the horses etc etc. We were basically being told that the way we keep ours is 'wrong' when its not, its just different to her!!

Lol sorry random babble there. Just mean that just because somebody is looking after their horses differently to me, its not automatically wrong, and I therefore wouldn't comment unless they asked for my opinion or I thought the welfare of the horse was at risk.

So is this a welfare issue to you guys or not. Don't know if I'm being silly

Horse lives in 24/7. Is never ridden. Is let to roll in school in hand every day,( although not for much longer as it has dug down to the bl00dy membrane and I landed on hardcore when jumping today as a result. grr) and is walked in hand round and round in circles in our indoor barn for about 10 mins.

Is in on it's own everyday as everyone else turns out and gets stressed out in it's box. As a result it is fully clipped but still sweats through its rugs on a regular basis. It is on three bute a day. It never interacts with another horse. Has been with us for a couple of months now and has spent 10mins alone in a field. Rest of time in stable, alone.

Vet has advised to turn it out with a mate as it is stressing. Advice ignored.

I don't know the reasons why it is kept this way but to me it seems to have no quality of life whatsoever. Am I allowed to ask why or do I just keep well out of it.

Horse is clearly well loved and treated like a prince but seems rather unhappy to me. It is sad to go round to it's part of the yard and see it :(
