Competing Alone - the answer???

madhossy - Yes thats just what I want to set up - so we can all compete without the extra worries of being alone!

So whos first with a request for a buddy - dont be shy - you will most probably be inundated with offers of help now!!

I'd be willing to help someone! Was thinking of offering my services as a jump judge at a few localish events this year, but the trouble with that is you get stuck at the same jump all day. Would be much more fun to help someone.

Experienced in: calling, making tea, plaiting, putting up jumps, calming down nerves, taking off boots, taking pics at biggest jump, hosing off nag, holding equipment

Useless at: putting on bandages, getting anywhere crack of dawn, driving long distances (get migraines!)

Anyone interested?

Llewelyn - you sound wonderful!

Alas, no events in your area.

Anyway I always feel guilty getting someone to help as I think they should be off watching and enjoying themselves!!

I'd be happy to help out if needed.
I can.....
Obey orders
Drive 7.5t lorry
Get up early
Tack up inc boots and studs
Call dressage tests
Put up practice fences
Wash horse down etc
Can even be useful sometimes to discuss how best to tackle a jump / course.
Make tea / coffee
Quote the rule book for BSJA and BE

I cant
Plait
Do bandages
Get excited about pure dressage

Yeah would definitely be a good idea, I am normally lucky and have some lovely person helping me, but know what a pain it is when I havent. BE on own is not fun

Brilliant idea - count me in. I sometimes go alone, and have built up an invaluable network of people through HHO who will rescue me/horse if something goes wrong. In fact after my fall last year, LEC strapped up my hand so I could drive home!

I always try and find someone I know going to each event who could rescue the horse if needed.

This is a fantastic idea - count me in!!

I'd be more than happy to help out someone at competitions - to be honest i don't know how you all do it on your own now!!

I have groomed for friends at events and always need someone there to 'hold my hand' so to speak when I go, and if and when I take Frankie I will defiantly need help as I don't think I could handle the wild beast on my own

Brilliant Idea - count me in as a needer of help and a helper!

My sister used to groom for me but now she has a 6 month old baby its not so easy for her to be at my beck and call. I've affiliated this season so could really do with some help at my first few BE events (Beds/Bucks/Herts/Cambs). If I am ever not competing or have different time slots as someone else at the same event I am happy to be a helper as well.

Great idea, I don't compete alone atm but have HGV booked so I might soon, however I am more than willing to help anyone that needs it in this area.

I'm on my own 99% of the time and would love some company especially when I'm show-jumping - I can pretty much cope dressaging on my own. If there is anyone in the Durham/North Yorkshire area that would be great.

What an excellent idea. I am usually OK with help on the day but I'm sure there will be a time when I could do with some help. Likewise I'm happy to help anyone who may need it. Sign me up please

okay, right. can i chuck my hat in first then, if everyone's being shy!!...
i am willing to help anyone in South Lincs/Cambs/Norfolk areas, i.e. Sheepgate, Sissons Farm, Four Winds, Burnham Market, Great Witchingham, Ely Eventing Centre, Belton, sort of areas. i'm between Kings Lynn and Wisbech.
if i'm competing anywhere i'm very happy to buddy up for the day, help each other out, etc etc etc.
can do everything except drive HGV, very willing gofer, slave for the day, etc etc. can plait, walk horses around for hours, call dressage tests, walk courses with you if you want, etc etc.
might really really need help on Sunday 12 April at Eland Lodge, am planning on taking 2 horses to do Intro and PN if i don't get balloted.
*sits back and waits nicely*

Depending what day get in at Eland, can help you on the Saturday! But the Intro is on the Sunday....?!! Am hopefully doing the Intro....

[safina runs and puts kettle on].....if you are happy to lower your standards from "top" to "lower middle" then I am pretty desperate for a helper for a few events. I can offer fried egg sandwiches, cake and wine in return for support and putting up with my horrid nerves!

I would be happy to lend a hand to help people in Northern Ireland, although I don't have experience within competition I am willing to learn and can come armed with a thermos of coffe/tea and food!

I've never done eventing grooming but have for dressage, worked at a SJ yard for 6 months during the summer and done a lot of showing grooming.

I'm fit so can run around, walk horses round for you (I did it on one leg once)

how could this work??

Not got much horsy experience, but would be willing to be company. Not convinced of my ability to hold over-excited horses alone, sane ones maybe!

R

Currently Devon area, but willing to travel a bit.

Will start another post later on listing who is where and willing to help, but yes help / buddy need to be sorted in advance so we can all be organised, will pluck up courage to talk to admin about it and see what they will do.
Thanks guys for all your positivity!
