ok so this is going to be a complete rant and i know u lot probably dont really care but im writing it anyway!!!

so in total we own 7 horses of all shapes and sizes most of them are my mums and sisters all very nice horses thou (most of the time!) well mum and sister have gone on holiday to see my dad (he moved to abu dhabi) so ive been left at home to look after the herd :) not much of an issue tbh like i said nice enough horses and 4 are currently living out so easy peasy.... yeah right!!!

they left on friday and within an hour of them leaving said sisters horses break the fencing which i attempt to repair with trusty bailing twine (where would we be without it!!) and pony broke his rug but refuses to be caught, so cant help him luckily he ripped the sursingle right off so rug is just a little broken! naughty little bugger!!
ok so fencing fixed for the night, i feed them all, bring the 3 remaining horses in (1 refuses to stay in a paddock past dark so must come in, the other is mine and is a woosey tb so i guess i moddy cuddle him slightly!! but hes all i have so i guess hes lucky, the other is his feild mate so easier to just bring it in!)

anyway weekend passes without many issues apart from we are running extremely low on hay :( mum failed to leave any money and im skint atm so not a happy bunny about this but have enough to feed the 3 that are in so thinking ok i can handle this for 10 days all is good

WRONG! went to work today and came home to utter carnage smashed fencing, ripped rugs, loose horses refusing to be caught! ahhhhhhhh  stupid silly ponies!!

finally caught the little blighters, returned them to said broken field and attempted to fix it (im not the best at handy work.... i am a woman after all) but i was rather proud of my efforts :D not sure the horses were!!

so next issue is what do i do with them???????? they clearly wont stay put (not much grass) and we are low on hay so i bite the bullet and begged our hayledge man for an emergency delivery and gave him a sob story about how i have nothing to feed them (only slight exaggeration!! :D) and im all alone with no money, could my mum pay him when she gets off her hols in a week?? thankfully hes a lovely man and agreed :D so now tomorrow i have a hayledge delivery and i hope to christ the naughty little sods will stay put now with my wonderful make shift fencing at least long enough for me to get hayledge in the field!!

anyway so while they are enjoying their lovely holiday in 40+ degrees heat im stuck in the rain fixing fencing my pony hasnt even broken!!! remind me again why horses are fun to own???!!!!!

i did say it was a long rant..... my bad, i can share my last easter egg if anyone got this far :)

Ooft they always pick the best times!

Earlier this year I was horse sitting and in the 5 days the electric generator for the fencing broke, one coliced, one slashed it's leg open (in a stable), the water froze (including for the house I was living in). Not a day went by without a problem of some kind!

So, so sorry, but this bit had me laughing at the image

"anyway so while they are enjoying their lovely holiday in 40+ degrees heat im stuck in the rain fixing fencing my pony hasnt even broken!!! remind me again why horses are fun to own???!!!!!"

Good luck! Hope the little darlings stay put :rolleyes::D

does happen at the best of times doesnt it! it was the first day of me looking after the yard as the yard manager had gone to egypt for 2 weeks... go to put a head collar on the first horse to turn him out and he turned his head and he had ripped his eye lid half off... i was alone on the yard, his owner wasnt answering the phone, i didnt know what vet they were with (4 different vet clinics used on the yard) and the horses were getting agitated and i was having a major panic attack... managed to get hold of one of the older more chilled ladies and she got it all sorted for me what would i have done with out her i dont know! :) hopefully ponies will stay put tonight! :)

Poor you!

Its called Sod's Law! Happened to me - I looked after my dad's cat while he went away sailing for a few months, and on the second day the cat got really badly run over - two broken legs, dislocated hips, etc. He was pinned and patched together and survived. On the third day the boiler broke (I was staying in his house as I'd just sold mine) and no plumbler would touch it as it was so old, so I ended up buying a new one. On the seventh day it snowed four feet - I'd been living in the soft south for a few years and had got out of the "country" life, so it was a shock!

Hope everything else goes smoothly and they bring you a huge present back!!x

:D thanks guys at least its not just me ;)

mrsmozart im glad i can be of some entertainment!! :D :D

its always the way, last time when me and my sister went out to see my dad my mum lost the cat for 3 weeks so i guess it does happen to everyone..... although i have no intentions of losing any of the little tribe!!!! :D

i think the old age saying of 'whilst the cats away the mice will play' fits perfectly!.... whats the betting they behave impeccibly as soon as their mummys return!!

honey08 i completely agree i think i should get the biggest present evvvvvver :D

animals never fail to keep us on our toes! :p

Lol. Years ago I was in charge of the yard while boss & family were on holiday. His stupid wb trashed a fence the first day. Second day, his wifes very expensive new dressage horse was out with the kids pony & unshod pony kicked hell out of it, resulting in it being lame for days. Was his choice of turnout companion though.

When I go away on holiday the preperation seems to take weeks. I once left afriend to look after my 2 ponies and rang her from the airport to find out one s**t had jumped out so she spend the week I was away stabled as my friend was too anxious about her doing it again.
Have you got a credit card, I would use that to buy bagged haylage and then give your Mum the bill? My daughter has a credit card on my account so I know if she needs anything she just charges it. If she is looking after the animals whilist we are away she has carte blanch for food and takaways.

honetpot: my mum is not nice enough or stupid enough to give me a credit card!!!!!!!!! :p :p
