comtois versus uk heavy breeds

Mercia what you are saying is you bought the horse from a 'Rescue' site presumably to sell on as you say you are being asked for pretty, heavyweight cobs. I don't have any problem at all with this as long as you don't call it 'rescue', it is when people that know no better are conned into paying money in the belief that they are 'rescuing' instead of buying from French Dealers that is the problem.

I bought a comtois filly from a resue site, not just because she was going for meat but because I am constantly being asked for pretty heavyweight cobs around 15.0hh who have excellent temperments.

Ah, so you're another one importing under the guise of rescue, but in fact dealing them? Can I ask if you import legally or illegally?

shall I make a pot of tea while we wait for the answer? It would be nice to have a straight forward answer like..'fock off, will do what I please' but i doubt if the op is reduced to lying for 'others',. If so, a very sad state of affairs and smacks of ' lack of character'. I repeat, very sad lowlife going on

and these poor sods-no one intereted in selling them at a huge profit in the UK?. These poor guys could walk to the slaughterhouse before breakfast

Are they any less remarkable? If you want t o buy one-dont get in contact with me. Go to the official site and you will find the best that there is to offer. The ones who end up on the low end dealers market are usually rotten (one way or another). Go for the best -it pays in the end

is it not a good thing these horses are being saved....I know our own heavies are dying out and thats not good i currently have a 2yr shire gelding and have just got a percheron from france and the only reason is beacause i love the breed and he will stay with me for life i didnt get him to sell on and neither my shire...i no nothing about the comtois but to me a heavy horse is 16hh+ and are these not only 15hh?? they look lovely but as you can see i no nothing about them..

As a Comtois owner, who also owns a Suffolk, The French are extremely proud of all their breeds and very careful to protect them, Our two are passported etc etc and were not cheap and I think you will find a lot of the horses over here will be like ours. I agree if you wish to rescue a horse we have hundreds over here needing homes. Heavy Horses are good but they are not angels and need proper handling like any other horse, Heavies if not handled right can be a complete pain like any thing else. Suffolks are real workers and have a lot of character, they also cannot stand lots of road work. In the right hands all our heavies are brilliant but like any other type or breed buyer beware, and when they weigh as much as they do look out.
