I have a 16.3 chestnut mare who has never been lame , she came in from the field 14 days ago not weight bearing , it turns out its concussion in the foot and i have to ice the hoof daily. She is now being ridden and looks good in walk but still lame in the trot and still heat on hoof by the bulbs of the heal . Has anyone ever had this problem and do you have any ideas on how to keep the hoof cold as there is still some heat ??

I have never heard of icing a foot. I am not sure how this would work tbh.
If she has concussion then its most likely she has flat feet and you need to ask your farrier to start to work on this problem over a period of time and shoeings.

In the meantime rubber or Equipak could help with this problem (but is very expensive).

Its not a shoeing problem though it happened in the field and she has twisted the coffin joint i believe , i have just been putting an ice pack around the hoof wall not near the sole equipak will check it out

Oh dear, you sound very young to me. A twisted coffin joint is a new one on me, was this a vet diagnosis? Icing a foot won't work.....think about it, if a hoof can withstand being hot shod without pain, it's insulation capacity is far too good to allow ice to penetrate temperature inside.

Echo the thoughts on looking hard at the foot shape and shoeing as the primary cause here.

Meanwhile heat = pain so stop exercise until it's resolved.
