I was clearing out my big storage box the other day and found that I had no less than 5 (yes,5!!) heavyweight turnouts for my boy!

The worst part of it is, I don't remember having all those, where or when I bought them or more to the point why I bought them. My poor little mare only has 2 - I feel really mean!

Anyone else guilty of this? Or is it just me?!?

Oh yes i have so many rugs it is embarrassing.

I just love buying rugs and i like putting them in nice new ones but don’t like throwing any away just incase....

I was a rug hoarder - but I have cleared the decks this year, and got rid of anything that doesn't fit the horses I have now, or anything that is a bit old and natty.

This is the first time I have had so many horses in for so long - and I have found I need to be more efficient with my rug hoarding

On the plus side - I now have 3 empty shelves in my rug room

My excuse is that the yard cat sleeps on all Sunny's rugs that are laid 5 deep over the partition wall. Oh dear, and I just bought another one a few days ago. Who is the Forum member who has the slogan in her siggy that says "I willl not buy any more rugs. I will not buy any more rugs. I will not buy any more rugs. I will not buy any more rugs"? Love it! Maybe we need a Happily Addicted to Buying Rugs clique???

I just moved yards and had to sort out all my rugs. The OH thinks we have to many as I can't fit them all in my allocated space but so what if 3 stable rugs have to live in the back of my car!

I realised I have a stable rug with neck with tags priced over £100, I didn't pay that for it but it has never fitted anything I own so owhy I bought it I don't know!! (5ft6)

I also discovered I had 11 thermolux rugs. I only have 4 horses! Even better, 1 is on loan to someone else, (and I bought the rugs before I bought the horse!) 1 is 29 and doesn't compete and 1 is 3 y/o and also doesn't go anywhere.

I live near where the manufacturer used to be based so got them at 'trade' price but still, why would I have bought 11?

Have since sold 4 so now down to a couple per ponio, much more sensible!!

I am short 1 medium weight turn out tho, new horse in the pring, loanees have bought it light weight, it has old baggages spare heavy weight but no mid weight (6ft3) Also 3y/o out grew hers so she needs 1 too (5'9). Looking out for bargains!!!!!

I am one of the worst rug hoarders - 98 at the last count for 2 horses! Someone asked if I had any to sell and I want through them but I really don't!. when you think they have 2 of each weight in heavyweight and stable rugs, a few that are ok as spares but not for regular use. Sweat rugs, show rugs, coolers etc = it soon adds up!

I have been clearing out rugs all year and am still going through more this weekend! I love rugs and my rug room was overflowing (yes I actually have to have a whole room for rugs!!!). I am now down to only 1 competition horse and 2 ponies so as I had around 30 rugs, these had to be cut down! My horse does have 3 HW, 2 MW and 3 LW turnouts though, but then he does live out 24/7 so he's allowed them! But then he also has 4 or 5 stable rugs (when he's very rarely stabled) however these are used standing about at horse events so I NEED them of course!

You have a rug room!

I have more horses than rugs at the moment. I will have to have a rug trying on session in a month or so to see what fits who, I'll probably sell a horse or two to even things up!

my horse has far to many rugs! i never throw any away unless i really really HAVE to. i still have the rugs i bought 9 years ago!

I am also a rug hoader after having a foal who wore 5ft rugs, we know have 4 of everysize of every type leading up to 7ft which he is now in as a 3 year old. Feel very reluctant to get rid of the proper baby ones as like to remind myself he was that little once before grew to the dinosaur he is today. I must have a clear out and take a trip to the rescue centres.

I think I win. 112 for 2 horses but as now one of them is retired I am selling some (6'3" and 6'0" ...!)

My excuse is that for years they were on a livery yard that required 2 of everything for stable and turnout. They didnt layer as it took too long to change rugs in the morning, and everything had to have time to dry so there had to be a spare.

So they had to have standard and combo turnouts in every weight x2 plus stable rugs in standard (and a few combos) x2. They are on DIY now so I use whatever rugs I like (although still dont like layering as the bottom one always slips back!)

You know I thought I was bad and then I read this thread suddenly I feel rather virtuous now. Although I do appear to have 5 coolers, why? I get one with a neck and one without but 5?

Sell the spares, and buy each horse a nice shiny new rug with the proceeds!

Most of them are brand new! They dont need more rugs (that is what I should keep telling myself) ... but have bought them 2 new fly rugs this morning. They dont count though - they arent technically a turnout or stable rug!

Oh and travel/cooler rugs dont count either (i.e. fleeces, thermatexes etc). Or exercise sheets. We should only have to count stable and official turnout rugs.

Ummm when we moved here, my OH for the first time saw how many rugs I had, bastwat counted them as they came off the lorry! It appears that I have around 70+ (I have 4 horses) only about 25 of these are turnouts, there are around 20 stable rugs and the rest are travel or summer sheets.

In my defence, I have had some of them for absolutely ages, I have them cleaned every year so they last and I only bought 2 last year (they were half price!) and NONE this year!!! Although I did come close last week, I managed to stop myself
