For me it would be worth investing in a session with Tom Beech (the Osteopathic Vet) to see what he thinks and finds. He may be able to suggest some remedial work to soften and lengthen himself to get him moving more freely.

i`d stop thinking about his limitations, and if as you say he is improving. just work on where you are with the lateral work, but live in the day kinda thing, and follow where it leads

i tend to go with whatever is happening, try to enjoy it and very often progress comes knocking on the door when least expected

if its movement you are after. not pushing for too much has given me unexpected results
