Contemplating Moving to Aberdeenshire...

Wow! So many responses!!! Thank you :D :D :D

I'm working at the moment (to make up for not doing it earlier...), but I'll start looking at all the places tomorrow :D

M - would rather not pay more than £300k, so whatever one can get for that (or much, much less lol - I'm a Yorkshire lass, what can I say :D). Happy to do work (lots of) :D

Forgotten who asked (sorry!), but a house with five rough acres round here is around the £750k mark, which I know is nothing to those from The South, but is ridiculous and we refuse to pay it, so have to vote with our feet :D

*I'm thinking of buyin a horse lorry instead of spending money on a removals company... :D :D :D*

I live in Fyvie which is about 40mins drive from the airport. Very easy to get to and within happy travelling distance from Waulkmill, Fountain, Cabin and Faraway plus some of the cross country courses too. It does get cold in the winter and it does rain a lot but I'd rather that than have mud up to my eyes or scorched grass. Fantastic scenery, hacking and show scene! I love it here and we got our place with 6 stables, outdoor school, 8acres and 5 bedroom house at a fraction of the price you'd pay down south. My family in Lincs couldn't believe what we paid and reckoned we'd have needed over £500,000 down there for the same!

Good thinking!

I've never been to aberdeenshire, but it's near Aviemore isn't it??? (bit thick)
If it's anything like Aviemore and the surrounding areas... go go go! It's SO beautiful there. Hummmm *wonders why she's still in England*

Oh I'd say go to Scotland MrsM, I love the place. Like we don't get bad weather down here! I have family in Perthshire and I love that area but think it's probably more pricey than Aberdeenshire for property from what I've perused when I've been daydreaming!

63 miles away!

And hey, if queenie has her little holiday home here, it cant be all bad!

MrsM - it will take you about 10 years before you understand the lingo up here.
Its not just an accent, its actually a different language!!!!!!

We live about 5 mins from Faraway Equestrian, 40mins from Aberdeen, we love it, We couldn't afford to have what we have anywhere else! This past winter was bad, but nice summers and having your horses outside your kitchen window make up for it! plus you can still hack in the snow!

I live in Aboyne (45 west of Aberdeen I think!). As someone said we had one of the coldest places last winter and had a crazy amont of snow for 3 months. But don't let that put you off! The scenery and hacking is stunning, there's lots of pony and riding clubs and bigger competition centres near by. You'll love it. Good luck

no, you want to come to Yorkshire.... as so many people proved on my thread here, yorkshire is clearly the best place to live.

we don't have midges, lots of space, lots of bridle ways, and you'd be near me (ok, so that's maybe not a selling point.....)

I lived for 4 years in aberdeen, and whilst I enjoyed Uni, I can't say as I enjoyed the area.

Yeees, come live up here :D
Just don't choose further up, eg Elgin, Inverness etc. Loooots of midges :p
Scotland's a fab place to live, especially Aberdeenshire. Sooo much to do! So many competitions held, and everyones so friendly :) and LOTS of hacking and BEACHES :D
Hope you find a lovely house for yourself and family soon :)

Ah Mrs M, we're being tempted by the dark side are we? ;)

I love scotland, I'm west coast so wetter but warmer than Aberdeen. That said we still hit -18 overnight last winter and -12 during the day! Bloody freezing! There is a large equestrian scene throughout Scotland so I'm sure you wouldn't have any issues with riding clubs/comps etc.

Hope you drink irn-brun though. Its compulsory up here :D

MrsM - it is also compulsory to call ANY area of England "Englandshire" if you move up here

We dont differentiate between the areas. It is just one big shire! lol

MrsMozart, I think you'll find Lancashire to be the county you are looking for. You'll get chased by Haggis in Aberdeenshire. I don't think the snow has cleared from January, yet. And There are no shops or electricity either.

You are quite right, we have no electricity because after inventing it, we sent it abroad (england) and decided to use our paraffin lamps (invented by us) instead.

We sent a load of tyres (our invention...) to you aswell because we just go round on our bikes (another of our inventions)

Thankfully, we were able to send all this stuff via tarmac roads (you guessed it...) and then abroad on steam engines (yawn - yes we invented them aswell)

Anyhoo, thats my phone ringing (yes yes, our little invention) but I cant see it in the dark! damn.

I`m off to the loo, my loo flushes dont you know, that was our invention, pretty clever one!

We sent that to englandshire aswell cos they need it for all the *****e that they speak....oh no, hang on, I mean the french.

tongue....cheek....

Get your snow boots on and get up here!

But I live on top of a hill overlooking the edge of the Cairngorms so I got over -20 last winter, and snow lying for 3 months so Im clearly mad!

Some snooooowwwwy pics from our place last winter!

Oh you lot are tooooooooooooo bad :D :D :D

Some lovely houses and scenary and just all too yummy!

We'll have to get out and about over the coming weekends and have a looksee. It's m'B'day on Saturday, and D1 is out and about on Sunday, so after this weekend we'll go loooooooooooooooooooooooooooking :D :D :D

Farrier issue apart...., any thoughts on its suitability for a family with two teenage girls, excessive number of dogs and horses?

We'd be buying a house with land, so hopefully livery issues won't be an issue :D

D says so long as no midgies!

Hello Mrs M,

Well Plumpton Place is now under offer! They obviously didn't like my offer of £8K!!!!

Try this website:

Haven't read all the posts so sorry if already suggested, but what about Ayrshire. Lovely countryside, close to Prestwick airport, main route to Glasgow airport and the city. Easy to get around not too isolated and usually not too much snow, not in the summer anyway LOL very rare not to have any grass because of drought!!!!
Near to Ingleston Equestrian center and Rowallan a large equestrian community. I could go on. Just a thought.
