I'm looking to buy a set of continental reins, however I feel the spacing between stoppers may be too wide on some of them. Can anyone recommend a set which have minimal spacing between stoppers?

Many thanks

you can always get extra stops added by a saddler if you find some you like. I have pony length leather continental reins from Sabre and I got them to put additional stops in before they sent them to me ;)

I just got some dyon ones, they have rather close spacing. I actually find them too close but I may just not be used to them.

Do you definitely want webbing reins? I've seen some rubber ones with the leather stops so close together you can't even fit a hand in the gaps, designed for those who like to actually hold the stops perhaps? Or people with tiny hands?

Thankyou for the replies, some great ideas. S And S, no im not fussy on material. Just looking for reins that my horse can't pull through my hands (strong horse & weak grip- strength!) TBH I'd probably rather have leather due to the fact that they will snap in an emergancy.

If you have a good saddler nearby it might be worth having a chat with them about making you a pair.

I have bad grip (through dislocated fingers that are now getting rheumatic-y) and I have a pair of wide laced reins. The lacing has smaller gaps than stops so can adjust more. Mine are 3/4 inch, with the lacing they are nearer 1 inch wide. This might sound too large but in reality the reins nestle well in my hand and can be used more softly than narrower ones. Mine are also a good length so I can bridge them easily for fast work. They were not cheap but if cared for will last a very long time.

If you're on Facebook search Henry James Saddlery. They do a set of leather and biogrip continental reins. I find the position of the stops just right, they are super flexible, look smart and are a great price. Plus I like supporting British companies.

That's what I thought, but they're normally in stock on their website, but sometimes show out of stock on their Facebook page so give that a go!

I'm not if Facebook but I tried their website & also noticed they sell on eBay. I contacted them via email & they are expecting stock in 2 weeks :)

Second this! I bought some because I was fed up with my continental reins removing the skin on my fingers and rubbing the hair off my horse's neck. I was a bit dubious about them because I generally don't like rubber reins because I find them a bit thick, but the Henry James ones are lovely and great quality for the price! The stoppers are just right, they are really flexible and not too bulky AND they haven't rubbed any hair!! Well, not until this week anyway but I suppose you can't have everything! :D
