Have decided to sell on said horse, subject of many postings, but today thought Id have another go at getting him out of the yard on his own. No one about at all so thought good opportunity. He will now not even go off the concrete apron of the yard onto the drive as he thinks hes going out. Wanted to take him in the school field as usually that is OK, today Non! Anyway sat on him quietly for 30 mins and he veeeery gradually one step literally at a time went into the school field. We wandered round for a bit then came out the gate towards the yard gate and brakes on again. Anyway sat there again quietly and one step at a time I actually got him to go out of the gate. BUT, every time he walked on a step if I put my legs on and told him to walk on he stoped again, I actually had to let him totally decide to walk on. So, has he won because he was calling the shots, or did I win because he did go out of the gate??. Have to say didnt go any further as turned round once out of the gate and got off on a good note! Took me an hour to go about 30 yards! All the while praying no one was going to come in the gate!

I would say you won, because your patience paid off, and you got him to do what he didn't want to do. I think you did really well, but I agree it's probably time to sell, what a bundle of fun he is..... Out of interest, will he ride out with anyone ? Just wondering about buyers getting the rooted-hoof episodes. sm x

Your patience showed him that he were committed in what you were asking him to do - so you won!

Do you think the potencial buyer would be able to hack him out when trying?

Ah well, this is a problem! He wont go out the gate unless someone walks in front of him, my instructor managed to get him from halfway round a ride to home, she is very determined. he will hack with another horse. I intend to advertise him as not hacking out alone. Only prob is at the moment i have no one to do escort duties either, so may have to resort to a selling livery. How does this work, do they take a proportion of the asking price or do you have to pay them livery etc. Not asking that much for him so that might cancel out any purchase price !

Personally I wouldn't even try riding him out on his own at the moment. I would just lead him out and about and build up a relationship with him or tag behind another horse.

Selling livery usually works so you pay a weekly livery fee and a commission, so would be expensive for a naughty/cheap horse unless they could sort him out and add value. You have my sympathy - nappy horses are hard, hard work and soul destroying, and after all this strange hobby is supposed to be fun!
