It’s a liquid but the dose for a cow is only 10ml on the wither so I use about that on the donkeys which are only wee and double that on the horse. Switch had no affect on my horse’s sweet itch whatsoever and Switch Pro was so runny following a change in formula I found it very difficult and wasteful to apply.

Cows weigh as much as a horse, was there a reason you doubled the dose? I find it works at the cow dose.

My horse is 18hh and 800kg so if the average horse is 400kg my horse is the equivalent of two horses as evidenced by his impressive hay consumption.

I'm glad I asked, I think people need to know not to double dose a more average sized horse. The average weight of a cow is apparently 720kg, so the cow dose should be plenty for the vast majority of horses and maybe more than necessary for the smaller ones.

I looked at weights - it says 5ml for a sheep, which is max 160kg. Than 10ml for a cow. Do people find 5ml is enough for ponies? I have:

3x 170-180kg (so obviously 5ml each for them)
4x 250-270kg (would 5ml still work ok?)
2x 350kg-400kg (7.5ml maybe??)

Well…spot testing tonight. 2 stopped eating for a while and one stopped eating then rolled. Going to check for swelling/soreness tomorrow evening and see.

Mine was definitely trying to scratch at it when I put it on this morning, but no lump tonight and not caring about a scratch from me. He's extremely thin skinned, I did wonder if I would be able to use it, or any other, fly treatment on him at all.

Hoping it’ll do as promised - no reactions so did the lot of them this evening. In the process of this, have found another of feral pony’s triggers. Syringe. I sprayed her with it in the end as couldn’t get close enough with it in my hand to smear it on. Half on each side of her back. Then I had to apologise with many polos as she was quite offended!

Just want to add that the legions of ticks on daughter’s pony are no more, no one is doing themselves damage trying to scrape off ticks themselves (NF and Welsh A culprits there!) and the lice seem to be…dead or choosing not to climb on. Worth every single penny, that was! Very happy ponies.

Don't panic if you get a raised patch, I've seen it twice and both times gone after 24 hours.
.

Hm. Good to know. Also interesting re weekly application. I'm about to use some spot-on with my youngster because he really seems to react to bug bites, but it's too hot here for a fly sheet. I did a test patch and noticed nothing this far. My last horse got painful welts from it. The horse before him, wasn't bothered.

I'm hoping it makes a difference here. He's got so many lumps and bumps from insects!
