I’m looking for some cordless horse trimmers, ideally not too expensive as I’m just wanting to trim fetlocks once or twice a year.

Any ideas?

My experience(s) for what they're worth:

I bought a set of Liveryman Harmony cordless. Got hairy cobs. These clippers are fine for trimming but as much good as a nun in a punch-up for my two mammoths. They are quiet though, so use them for trimming bits & pieces. Might be perfectly OK with a finer TB/WB type but for cobs? Nope!

Had a set of Lister Liberty (battery pack) on hire. Needed to clip my cob mare and also do her feathers as the vet was coming to do teeth and was sedating anyway. The battery back gave out after just 10 mins into the job and we had to use the mains connection wire. Still the clippers were sluggish and felt like they were going to die on the job any minute, even the vet remarked on it! Also, alarmingly, the clippers heated up rapidly and we had to keep stopping to let them cool down - really NOT helpful when you've got a horse under sedation and need to crack on!! We made a full report to the clipper hire company and they agreed our experience had been so bad that they refunded us in full! I do not know if this was a typical experience with this particular brand of clippers however.

Sorry can't be more helpful, or positive!

If you're just looking for trimmers, not clippers, I rate the Masterclip Showmate. They're happy hogging my cob's barbed wire mane, the battery life is good, and they've even done my hair during lockdown!

Thanks for that, who would have thought it would be so difficult to find a decent set of clippers?
Ive looked at the Liveryman harmony ones but theyre way out of my price range, annoyingly

Ive been looking at them, as there’s one for sale on ebay, however in have read some bad reviews But for£40 i feel like i should give it a go. Thanks

Ive got some Masterclip Professional Animal Trimmers. I think they are actually for dogs, only cost about £50. Great for fetlock and chins. Have done both my husband and my brother's hair with them during lockdown when I didn't think they'd be man enough( clippers not the men:))

Thanks I’ll have a look!

I have Lister Liberty with the new Lithium batteries, last 4 hours and easily clip my HW show cob, hog and legs all year round (I only do legs and hog in Summer obviously)
Sounds like the previous poster who had an issue with them, had the old style battery pack which was notorious for losing charge when on the way out - the new Lithium battery is much meatier and only takes just over an hour to recharge and also lasts 2-3 times longer.
I also use Lister Adagio (now rebranded at Wahl Adore) with a guard to trim and blend legs.

if it's just trimmers you're after I got some Liveryman Classic rechargable trimmers last year and am really pleased with them. The blades can be changed from more to less close with a slider, and it also has combs to increase up to a 12mm (I think!) cut so very versatile. They hold a good charge and are small and neat in the hand. They were about £100 but my experience with things like this is that if you can afford to spend enough to get something decent they will last for years.

I have the Liveryman Classic Cordless ones too - agree with everything MP said. Actually used them for a full clip on my Connie a few times as well. Don't think they'd be much use on anything heavy though - I thought they were going to blow up when I tried to sort a friend's Cob's feathers with them!

I've got a pair of Liveryman Elements, which have been fab over the last 4 years for clipping out the thick feathers on my late thick, greasy-coated cob. Even managed to odd trace/belly clip on her with them.
They're still in use now on my remaining lighter/thinner coated pair, including a couple of full clips.
I quite like the blades on them, you can't get them sharpened, but they seem to last for ages, and it's only £20 for a few set. I think I'm on my 3rd set now?
