Hey all,
My horse injured his coronet band and hoof on 17th Jan '15. He was stabled at the time and I am not sure how he managed to do it but it seems like he got something like a nail caught above his hoof which ripped through the coronet band and hoof wall. It is a lot deeper than it first appears with quite a lot of damage behind the hoof wall.
He was very lame when it first happened (not putting weight on the leg at all for three days) and now is sound in walk but still lame on trot. The vet was out four or five times in January and he was treated with antibiotics/bute and dressed etc but the vet has not been out since (but it appears to not be healing too well so I am hoping to get her out again this week). He had 8 weeks of box rest and has been on field rest the last couple of weeks.
I have linked some photos dating from the week after it happened until last week. In the most recent photos you can see the strange growth from the coronet band. I just wanted to ask if anyone had seen anything like this before (or any similar injuries). Also opinions on how to treat coronet band injuries in the long term or any information about horses with similar injuries would be much appreciated.
