Cheapest feed to use purely for adding supplements. Not too fussy native who doesn’t need calories. Does need to taste of something. The straw type chaff is a step too far! Was thinking maybe hay replacer or grass nuts?

I find grass nuts very cheap to feed because they bulk up so much when soaked. They eat them well, though I do add a handful of plain chaff for a bit of texture

The emerald green stuff is cheaper than a lot of others. I use Grasstastic to make the expensive stuff go further but Fibre Fabulous is the low cal version and is £13.50 at my local feed store for a big bag

Old Dobbin is going to move onto total forage replacers this winter, as he is losing teeth. Soaked sugar beet and dried grass chaff will be the mainstay, with Fast Fibre and Mollichaff on the side just to bulk out the rations. I have been wary of molassed chaff for years, but after reading the Mollichaff blurb, I'll give it a try. Roughly £8 a bag from my feed store.

I've found that the Dodson & Horrell Just Grass chop goes a long way, it's more tightly packed in the bag than the emerald green and so seems to last longer. If it's for more than a filler I still prefer the Emerald Green but for a filler I find Just Grass cheaper.

They're both sold by weight and you get 12.5 kg of the Fibre Fabulous or Grasstastic and 12kg of Just Grass so how they're packed shouldn't make a difference.

The one that is slightly misleading is the Dengie Meadow Grass with Herbs which is a 15kg bag but has small pellets in it so is heavier.

Yes and no - it depends if you feed by volume or weight :D the just grass is lighter and fluffier than the emerald green so if you're just going by volume if fluffs up to a lot more, if you feed by weight then agreed, it would both be the same.

And actually fluffier could be good for a fatty.

Having said that I have found a difference in Grasstastic, it tells you which field it comes from and they do differ some being fluffy, though they all seem to smell the same and are equally palatable.

That's the Grasstastic though and in this case, OP may be better with the Fibre Fabulous and I've not used that.

Ahhhh I've never tried their grass tastic only their normal grass one. I do actually prefer Emerald Green but for the summer when I've just needed a filler the Just Grass has been useful now we're getting back in to winter though I'll be going back to Emerald Green.

I always think of Grasstastic as being the standard grass chaff and the Fibre Fabulous as the special low cal one.

I've got a skinny tb so I'm always thinking about calories per £ and I have to stretch out the Agrobs musli which is his favourite but would bankrupt me if I fed just that

Oops I got confused - I thought that their grass tastic was their low calorie one and they did another 'normal' one - It is grasstastic I usually use from them 🙈

I also have a TB so also have the pain of getting as many calories as possible in the winter 😂

That's the molassed supabeet which is more expensive locally at £12.75, that comes in 25kg.. Last time I bought the Equibeet earlier in the year it was £7.99 but the bag is 20kg but Titmuss is very cheap.

Anyone in Oxon, good price here

Or a bit more in Cheshire
